The week ahead: Nov. 9-15
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Nov. 9-11: Spring Awakening
The Good Night Theatre Collective’s rendition of “Spring Awakening,” about the trials and tribulations of growing up, set to an electrifying soundtrack of rock tunes, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Washington Pavilion’s Belbas Theater. This production is intended only for mature audiences. No one younger than 18 will be admitted without an adult parent or guardian accompanying.

Nov. 10-11: Festival of Trees
The Hand Up Foundation and Sioux Empire Arts & Craft Show will host the Festival of Trees to benefit Casa Angelina over two days. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Forty Christmas trees and wreaths donated by area businesses will be on display. People can vote on their favorite and purchase them from an online auction. Admission is free with a ticket to the Sioux Empire Arts & Crafts Show, which is hosted at the same time in the same building with more than 285 exhibit booths. Tickets cost $8, with children age 12 and younger free.

Nov. 11: Indoor market
Missing farmers market season yet? Head to Brandon for an indoor version of the Brandon Farmers Market featuring dozens of local vendors. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Faith United Church, 800 N. Splitrock Blvd. For the full vendor list, click here.

Nov. 11: Holiday greens
Using seasonal greens, Landscape Garden Centers staff will help you create a piece sure to add holiday cheer to your home. Container sizes range between 9 and 14 inches, and you’ll choose from a selection of artificial branches, seasonal picks, berries and ornaments. Sanitized pruners and scissors will be provided or bring your own. Dress in layers because it is an unheated workspace. Cost of the class is $15 plus tax. The workshop fee includes gloves and instruction. There is an additional cost for the greens and accessories. Registration closes an hour before class start time at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Nov. 14: Science class
Have you ever wondered if the little red spheres on your sushi were really fish eggs? Or what those beads are at the bottom of your boba tea or on top of your ice cream? Come to this month’s installment of the Sioux Falls Science Pub to learn about the process of spherification, the technique of making small caviar-like spheres that can be added to food and drink. You will make your own spheres and experiment with different flavor combinations using ingredients that can be mixed with beers. Leading the class is Julie Olson, a natural sciences instructor at Southeast Technical College. It will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Severance Brewing, 701 N. Phillips Ave.

Coming up: Nov. 18-19
Students from Artistry Dance will perform the “Frozen Heart” ballet four times next weekend at the Bishop O’Gorman High School Performing Arts Center. Come along to the land of Arendelle, and enjoy a story of true love and acceptance between sisters. “Frozen Heart” follows the journeys of princesses Anna and Elsa with adventures involving characters and creatures of all kinds! Visit this site for tickets. Performances are at 3 and 7 p.m. Nov. 18 and 2 and 6 p.m. Nov. 19.
