Nov. 23: Thanksgiving Eve Party
The El Riad Shrine Clowns will host a Thanksgiving Eve Party from 4 to 11:45 p.m. Wednesday at the El Riad Shrine, 510 S. Phillips Ave. Sugar Daddy will perform, drinks for all ages will be served, and food is available until it’s gone. To reserve a table, call Matt Leedom at 605-366-2857.
Nov. 25: Tree lighting
The Washington Pavilion will light up its 45-foot tree Friday. The tree stands at 11th Street and Main Avenue. Special guests, including Mayor Paul TenHaken, will light the tree at 6:25 p.m. Live music will begin at 5:45 p.m. with cookies and hot chocolate served courtesy of Hy-Vee.
Nov. 25: Parade of Lights
Bundle up Friday, and head to downtown Sioux Falls for the 30th annual Parade of Lights. The parade, now hosted by First Bank & Trust, has become a family tradition that features holiday floats with festive decorations and lots of light. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. Awards in six categories are presented at an after-party at the Holiday Inn City Centre.
Nov. 26: Open-mic poetry
It’s the fourth Saturday of the month, so it’s time for poets and poetry lovers to gather at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. Open-mic poetry will be shared from 8 to 10 p.m.
Nov. 26: Selfie Saturday
While you’re downtown shopping on Small Business Saturday, set aside time to snap a few pictures at the selfie stations set up at the Downtown Plaza. You’ll find them scattered around the space on 10th Street one block east of Phillips Avenue. Say “Christmas!”
Nov. 26: Jingle Bell Run
Jingle-jangle while you run. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. Walkers and runners dress up in holiday gear before setting out on the route. It runs — pun intended — from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Fawick Park, 200 S. Second Ave.
Nov. 26: Creative Creatures Art Show
New zoo event Saturday brings together artists, animals, seasonal fun
Nov. 27: Santa Train
If you’re a fan of both Santa and trains, travel to Luverne, Minnesota, on Sunday for the Santa Train. Santa and Mrs. Claus ride the Ellis & Eastern Railway from Rushmore to Adrian to Magnolia to Luverne. The event runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Luverne City Park and include fireworks.
Nov. 27: Sunday Cinema and Sours
Not had enough turkey? Sunday Cinema and Sours at Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars, 434 E. Eighth St., is hosting a movie about two time-traveling tom turkeys trying to change the course of history. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Snacks will be available.
Nov. 29: Annual ‘postcard’ show
Eastbank Art Gallery, 401 E. Eighth St., will host its annual show featuring the work of multiple regional fine artists beginning Nov. 29 and running through Dec. 30. The original artwork is 4-inches-by-6-inches in size. Also in December, the work of member artist John Olson will be featured. A reception honoring Olson will be 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2.
Coming up: Dec. 9
Start mixing now for a holiday mixer that features a Mocktails Mix-off. The community sobriety event will be 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at Giving Hope Bingo, 1605 W.
