The week ahead: Oct. 2-8
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Oct. 2: Women Who Care
Three local nonprofits in need of help will give presentations on Thursday at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars, 3000 W. 57th St. The event is organized by 100+ Women Who Care, which has a goal of raising $15,000 for the local nonprofits in one hour. Bread Break of Sioux Falls, the spring recipient, will talk about the impact the earlier gift made. Check-in will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the meeting from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

Oct. 4: Dogs and trails
The pet service Go for Ride will take its Pup Bus to Good Earth State Park at Blood Run for a Tails to the Trails event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. It’s a chance for your dog to join other dogs on the bus ride and then explore the park’s trails safely. Find more information here.

Oct. 3: Salsa dancing
Think salsa is something that just goes on chips? Think again. Natalie Rea from the Ballroom Dance Academy will offer salsa dance lessons the first Friday of each month, beginning Friday and ending in March. Lessons at Icon Event Hall, 402 N. Main Ave., start at 7:15 p.m., and you can practice your moves from 8 to 10 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, and for another $10, you’ll get a Spanish appetizer. Get your tickets here.

Oct. 4: Fall Fest
The annual Fall Fest at The Bridges, 57th Street and Western Avenue, will include amazing deals plus family activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot. Roger’s Country Produce will have pumpkins and gourds, Prairie Lane Vintage Rentals will offer a fall-themed photo booth for selfies, Scouting America will sell popcorn, and food trucks will include Roscoe’s Kitchen, Breaking Burrito, Backyard BBQ and Las Mexicanas. Horse-drawn wagon rides from McCrossan Boys Ranch will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Oct. 4: Spoon bending
Ready to bend spoons, forks or reality? Good NAtured, 921 E. Eighth St., will host a spoon-bending party at 5 p.m. Saturday in an atmosphere of lightness, fun, unity and learning. Ordinary utensils will be bent using conscious intention, with Zhenya serving as facilitator. This event will support Good NAtured’s mission, so a $20 attendance fee is requested. Children are no charge. Bring several sturdy spoons, forks or knives along — you can find them at thrift stores.

Oct. 6-10: Pop-up coffee shop
The digital marketing agency The Sampson House, 522 N. Main Ave., Suite 100, is turning 10. To celebrate, next week it will transform into a pop-up cafe. Coffee will be free from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Oct. 10. Each day will feature the following speakers at noon: Vaney Hariri, Ripples and Impact of Investing in Your Community, Monday; Jaci Pieters, The Playground Principles of Networking, Tuesday; Jon Carda, Building Trust With the Power of Silence, Oct. 8; Jenna Harris, The Difference Between Being Liked & Respected, Oct. 9; and Lora Hayes, Leadership Lab: Real Challenges, Collective Solutions, Oct. 10.
