April 24: Garden party
Cliff Avenue Greenhouse and Garden Center, 2101 E. 26th St., will host a garden party from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with interactive seminars, food, drinks and door prizes. It is free and open to the public. At Cocktails with Canton, learn how to incorporate fresh herbs into cocktails with Canton from Blarney Stone Pub. Slaying Your Pots with Hayley is a container gardening seminar. Other seminars include how to style decks and patios, and how to make an annual or herb pot.

April 24: Artistic activism
Join The Compass Center for an evening where art meets activism. Ten models will bring to life pivotal moments in sexual assault survivor rights and advocacy through an innovative floral fashion show woven together with poetry and contemporary dance. Performers include Chelsea Giedd and Sul Dibba, with a dual poetry reading; Move To Heal Dance Collective, contemporary dance; and a 13-model Floral Fashion Show on warning signs of domestically violent relationships. Good NAtured will provide signature mocktails. Shows are at 6 and 8 p.m. at Conscious Connections, 434 E. Eighth St. Cost is $45; only a few tickets remain and are available here.

April 25-26: Halfway to Halloween
Get ready to scream! Terror 29, 1420 E. Cedar St., Brandon, will host its annual Halfway to Halloween event from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The haunted house doors will creak open, inviting you to face the terrors within. That’s not all — Terror 29 Spook Show performances will take place at 8 p.m. May 3 and May 10 with ghost stories, magic tricks and freak show stunts.

April 26: Save the Kitties
Save the Kitties is a day full of fun, feline love and kindness for the launch of Kit & Kind and its partnership with The Cattitude Cafe, 225 E. 11th St. Kit & Kind is an online shop; 100 percent of its profits go to support cat rescue organizations. Together, they are raising funds to support rescue cats and find them homes. The first 50 customers will receive a limited-edition magnet, and the day’s first five adoptions will receive a starter pack with food, toys, merchandise and a gift card. Coloring pages and temporary tattoos are available for kids while supplies last. Exclusive Kit & Kind merchandise will be sold at 10 percent off. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; make reservations make reservations here.

April 27: Celebrate trees
Learn about the importance of trees at the Urban Arbor Day Festival from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Pasley Park. It will feature multiple vendors who will provide resources for tree-planting projects.

Professionals will give live demonstrations showcasing tree care equipment, techniques and knowledge. There also will be live music by the Crabgrass Crew from 1 to 2 p.m., the Bookmobile and a hands-on birdhouse-building activity.

Coming up: May 3
Kick off the growing season at the fifth annual plant sale at McCrossan Boys Ranch’s Robert L. Neilson Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to noon May 3. The free event is open to the public, whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out. A wide variety of plants and gardening items will be on sale. Visitors also cab take a scenic walking tour of the ranch, meet the friendly animals and eat at local food trucks and vendors. With both indoor and outdoor spaces, the event will be held rain or shine.
