Sioux Area Metro is expanding bus service to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, along with other upgrades.

The new service starts Feb. 3.

Other changes also are in response to community feedback as well as demand and travel data. The early 2025 upgrades include:

  • New airport service: SAM’s Black route will run to the airport between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. now that construction on Benson Road is complete.
  • Earlier morning routes: The Purple, Orange, Green and Red routes will begin at 6 a.m.
  • Timetable adjustments: The timing of stops will be adjusted to improve fixed route on-time performance. New timetables are available at siouxareametro.info/bus and in printed form at the SAM Downtown Bus Depot, 120 E. 11th St).

“These exciting upgrades were developed in close collaboration with the city and are intended to get more people to try transit than ever before,” said Emily Shapiro, Sioux Falls general manager at Via, which manages Sioux Area Metro for the city. “Via will continue its commitment to elevate the Sioux Falls public transportation experience in 2025.”

Via is reporting “impressive gains in ridership” last year and will continue to focus on data analysis, community education and gathering feedback, the company said.
