Road Report: Aug. 1, 2022

Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

41st Street: Underground utility work is finishing up on 41st Street between I-29 and Marion Road.

The next steps will be grading, subgrade stabilization and gravel placement, followed by paving.

Marion Road is closed north of 41st, but is expected to reopen to traffic in mid- to late August. One lane of traffic in each direction is being maintained on 41st at all times.

Crews also are working on a drainage channel on the west side of I-29 between 41st and 57th streets.

Minnesota Avenue: Minnesota Avenue traffic is expected to be switched onto the new pavement on the west side of the street between Second and Brookings streets late this week.

Crews are finishing up sidewalk work in this segment now.

Crews also are working on underground utilities on the east side of the street between Russell and Brookings streets.

This project is still on track to have all lanes of traffic open later this fall. Landscaping work will occur in the spring of 2023.

What’s next

41st & Valley View: Beginning today, the intersection of 41st Street and Valley View Road/Holbrook Avenue will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic to allow construction crews to replace the water main. Westbound traffic on 41st will be the only traffic to still have right turn access north onto Valley View. Traffic on 41st will not be impacted. North-south traffic should utilize Sertoma Avenue as a detour route. This work is expected to be complete in about one month.

Sixth Street: On Tuesday, Sixth Street will be closed to traffic between Phillips and Weber avenues to allow crews to erect a crane for the Cherapa development. Traffic should utilize Eighth Street as a detour route. Sixth Street will reopen to traffic by the end of the day.
