Road Report: April 6, 2026
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Arrowhead & Veterans: Work has resumed at the intersection of Arrowhead and Veterans parkways.

Over the past month, crews have removed an old sewer pump station just north of the intersection and are working on the grading for a new detention pond in the southeast quadrant of the intersection.

Street closures aren’t expected to begin until late this month or early May.

At that time, Arrowhead Parkway will be closed east of Veterans Parkway for five to six weeks to allow crews to complete work on the east half of the intersection.

Once work on the east half of the intersection is complete and reopened to traffic, Arrowhead will be closed west of Veterans to Highline Avenue for the remainder of this year’s construction season.

Work is expected to be substantially complete and all lanes open to traffic in late 2026. Some cleanup, restoration and landscaping work may carry over into the spring of 2027.

Minnesota Avenue: Work is off to a good start on the Minnesota Avenue reconstruction project between Second and Eighth streets.

Pavement removals are complete on the east side of the street, and crews are working on removing some bedrock to allow for underground utility installation.

Using small detonations like the one shown in the video below is the most efficient means to break up the rock to allow crews to install the underground utilities.
Work is expected to be substantially complete and all lanes open to traffic in late 2026.

What’s next
Interstate 229 & Cliff: Beginning today, northbound traffic on Interstate 229 will be switched to the southbound lanes between Minnesota Avenue and 26th Street to allow crews to begin work on the next phase of the interchange reconstruction project at Cliff Avenue. The northbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp at Cliff Avenue, Exit 4, also will close on Monday. Northbound drivers should use Minnesota Avenue’s Exit 3 or 26th Street’s Exit 5 as detour routes to access Cliff Avenue. The southbound on-ramp and off-ramp will remain open. Traffic on Cliff Avenue will not be impacted at this time. Work is expected to be substantially complete and all lanes open to traffic in late 2026. Final completion of all work is expected in the spring of 2027.
Marion Road: Beginning today, Marion Road will be closed from Memory Lane to 84th Street North to allow crews to construct a new bridge over the BNSF Railway tracks. Work will include new water main, storm drainage infrastructure, the bridge, concrete paving, street lighting and traffic signals. Work is expected to be complete in late 2027.
Veterans Parkway: Beginning today, the outside lanes at the intersections of Veterans Parkway and 26th Street and at Veterans and 41st Street will be closed to allow crews to complete concrete pavement and curb and gutter repairs. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times. In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closures at these intersections will vary. Access to businesses, homes and side streets will be maintained. Work in these two intersections is expected to be complete in early May. Construction along Veterans Parkway between 26th and 41st streets will continue through July.
Kiwanis Avenue: Beginning today, the southbound lane of Kiwanis Avenue will be closed between 41st and 49th streets to allow crews to perform storm drainage work. Southbound traffic will be maintained in the center turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in approximately two weeks.
10th Street: Beginning on Wednesday, the southernmost lane on 10th Street will be closed between First and Phillips avenues to allow crews to perform utility work. Parking will not be allowed on the south side of the street, and the sidewalk on the south side of the street will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the north sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete in about three days.
