New fitness court coming to city park

The city’s first outdoor fitness court will be installed soon.

The new equipment for Rotary Park originally was planned to be brought in last year, but pandemic-related delays held it up.

It’s in now, though, “so as soon as Mother Nature allows, we’re going to start installing it,” said Mike Patten, park development specialist.

The hope is to be ready for a grand opening by June.

The multipurpose equipment has 28 stations to create an outdoor functional fitness court, including exercise bikes, pullup bars, kettlebell stations, box jumps, core stations and poured-in-place rubber surfacing.

“I think it’s going to be wildly popular,” Patten said. “I think once people get to using it, we’re going to get requests for it (in other parks) like crazy.”

Rotary Park is at 2408 E. 26th St. The fitness court will be on the east side of the Big Sioux River near the picnic shelter and playground.
