Aug. 14: Opening reception

A new exhibit is opening at the Old Courthouse Museum, 200 W. Sixth St., and it will be welcomed with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. “An Indigenous America” focuses on the diverse group of people who initially populated this country. In some instances, only a handful of artifacts remain to explain what their lives may have been like. However, most of the cultures survived the incursion of Europeans, and their material culture speaks to a world filled with home, artistry, utility and beauty.

Aug. 15: Trailgating Festival

Join Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation and Great Bear Ski Valley for an afternoon of outdoor family fun Friday at 5901 E. Rice St. Enjoy yard games, bouncy obstacle courses, a self-guided photo scavenger hunt on the trails and nature crafts. Visit the lodge for food and refreshments, and visit the campfire for s’mores while listening to live music. There’s also a corn hole tournament for teams 18 and older. The festival and corn hole tournament registration open at 6 p.m., with the tournament at 6:30 p.m.

Aug. 16-17: Brick Falls

Brick Falls, an expo for Lego fans, returns with the theme “Play Together, Play Forever” on Saturday and Sunday at Remedy Pickleball Pub, 100 N. Reid St. Events include a Creation Station to build your own works of art and the Brick Falls Fellow Scavenger Hunt. Some of the professionals also have added interactive parts to their creations. Tickets are available here. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Aug. 16: End-of-summer bash

Uppercut, 2819 E. 10th St., and Green Room Productions will send off the summer with a bash that begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and ends at 2 a.m. Sunday. The first-time event will include a beer Olympics, beanbag tournament, live outdoor music, food trucks and a 50/50 raffle for the Children’s Home Society. An EDM show will begin at 10 p.m. Entry fee is $10.

Aug. 16: Ice and art

Zenith Art Studios, 218 W. 13th St., Suite 110, will offer a chance to create art with ice in a Saturday workshop. For $35, you’ll receive a T-shirt and learn how to make a tie-dyed design with ice. It starts at 1 p.m. You can preregister at Zenithstudios605.com.

Aug. 17: Float the Big Sioux

Altered Species Ales and Ode to Food and Drink are teaming up for a float on the Big Sioux River, using kayaks, canoes or paddleboards. Tickets are $50; participants will receive a flight of Altered Species beers and two cans to go. You’ll meet at the Farm Field Park kayak launch point on 57th Street near Western Avenue.
