June and July: Storyland plays

Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation will present Storyland Children’s Theatre with free performances in June and July at the McKennan Park band shell. Featuring skits based on familiar and new children’s stories, the shows include fairy tales, music, costumes, dance and audience participation. Here is the schedule:

  • 10 a.m. Thursday: Cinderella Goes Disco
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 23 and 10 a.m. June 24-25: Frumpled Fairy Tales
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 30 and 10 a.m. July 1-2: Farmer Frank and the Curious Kittens
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 7 and 10 a.m. July 8-9: The Worst Fairy Tale Ever
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 14, 10 a.m. July 15-16: Wild Island Adventure
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 21 and 10 a.m. July 22-23: The Commedia Prince and the Pauper
  • 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 28: Nancy Drew and the Case of the Missing Pinata

June 20: Juneteenth

The free Sioux Falls Juneteenth community festival will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Fawick Park. It will feature live music, soul food, crafts and cultural celebrations honoring Black history. The Freedom Walk will start at 10 a.m. It is stroller-, wheelchair- and pet-friendly.

June 20: Picasso popsicles

Bright colors and tissue paper will turn into popsicle-inspired masterpieces during a family activity at the Washington Pavilion. The Picasso popsicles can be made from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The activity is included with museum admission.

June 21: Car show

Freeze the Streets will host a car show for Father’s Day from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the DQ Grill & Chill off 57th Street and Western Avenue. Entries will include all makes and models of classic cars to brand-new. Motorcycles also are welcome.

June 20: Brady Wrede

Sioux Falls singer-songwriter Brady Wrede will return to The Source Coffee Roastery & Taproom for an evening of original indie folk music and folk and pop covers. The music will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at 421 N. Phillips Ave. According to The Source, this might be your last chance to see him perform for a while.

June 24: Special showing

Start your Fourth of July celebrating early with a one-hour preview of the Ken Burns’ documentary “The American Revolution.” It starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Alliance, 1600 W. Russell St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming: June 25

During an afternoon marketplace, entrepreneurs age 6 to 17 will design their own logos, create their own products, set their own prices and pitch their businesses. Hosted by Acton Academy Sioux Falls, the free, family-friendly event will be open to the public. Visitors can browse, buy and encourage the kids participating. The event will take place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. June 25 as part of the Lake Lorraine Farmers Market.
