Update: 911 service has been restored, according to the city of Sioux Falls.

Wireless 911 service appears to be down for much of South Dakota, including Sioux Falls.

The Union County sheriff’s department first reported the outage, saying that 911 service “is down throughout much of the state.”

At this time, landline calls are going through, as well as texts to 911.

Metro Communications confirmed to Tea Storm Chasers that the mobile outage also is impacting Sioux Falls, while the city of Sioux Falls posted online that the state 911 system is experiencing intermittent outages.

Text 911 in case of emergencies from a wireless phone or call 605-367-7000.

The last large-scale 911 outage was in April, when crews installing a light pole cut into a fiber line and disrupted service in multiple states.

So far in this outage, the Omaha area also is reporting being without service.
