Road Report: March 31, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Arrowhead & Veterans: Construction is off to a good start on Arrowhead Parkway, which is part of the reconstruction of the intersection with Veterans Parkway. Arrowhead closed east of Veterans on March 26 and will be closed for the remainder of the 2025 construction season.

Veterans Parkway is open to one lane of traffic in each direction. Crews are in the process of stripping topsoil, grading and removing the existing pavement.

One of several bores under the roadway for underground utility installation has been completed already.

Pavement removal and grading will continue for the next several weeks, and underground utility installation will begin soon. Motorists are asked to use the official, signed detour routes instead of cutting through residential neighborhoods to avoid the closure on Arrowhead Parkway.

Work in 2025 is expected to be complete in November, with one lane of traffic in each direction being restored over the winter. Work will begin again as weather allows in 2026. All lanes are expected to be fully open to traffic in November 2026.

12th Street: Intermittent westbound lane closures began on March 26 on 12th Street at LaMesa Drive to allow crews to haul dirt out of the area. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Cherokee Street: Cherokee Street closed between M and K avenues in the industrial park south of the airport on March 28 to allow crews to repair the railroad crossing at this location. This work is expected to be complete in about one month.
What’s next
85th & Heritage/Ellis: Beginning Tuesday, work will begin at the intersection of 85th Street and Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road to allow crews to begin construction of a roundabout.
Motorists on Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road will be diverted to the temporary asphalt access road east of the intersection that was constructed last year. 85th Street will be open to local traffic only. The roundabout is expected to open to traffic in late June.

This is the second year of construction on this joint city of Sioux Falls/city of Tea project to improve 85th Street between Heritage/Ellis and Sundowner Avenue. The intersection of 85th and Sundowner was completed last year, and the remainder of the project will be completed this year.
What’s new
Webpage: New this construction season, the city of Sioux Falls has added a feature on its street construction webpage. In addition to the typical map showing major projects for the year, you’ll now find a map that shows all of the active street/lane closures around the city. This map is located at siouxfalls.gov/construction. Here’s an example of the information provided:
