The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Oct. 15: Spooky Science

It’s an all-day event filled with activities for all ages from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Pavilion’s Kirby Science Discovery Center.

Explore art and science while experimenting with boo bubbles, squishy slime and more, plus all kids will take home a bag of Halloween treats. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Admission is free for Pavilion members and $14.50 plus tax for nonmember adults and $11 plus tax for those age 3 through 17, with kids 2 and younger free.

Oct. 15: Witches Tea

It’s the “witchiest” event in town. A Witches Tea will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at The History Club of Sioux Falls, 758 S. Phillips Ave. Tickets are $25, and tables seat eight. Witch attire is recommended, and tea and refreshments will be served. The theme is “scare-aoke,” so prepare for a little singing. Click here for information.

Oct. 15: Halloween at Lake Lorraine

Trick-or-treat with characters and lots of photo-ops along the lake at this free event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Everything takes place on the Lake Walk on the west side of Lake Lorraine. Park in the Carsforsale.com parking lot and then head to the north to enter the Lake Walk path.

Along with interactive characters, you’ll find candy stations and other goodies from Lake Lorraine businesses and community organizations. There will be costume paddle and rentals from Flow and Paddle from noon to 4 p.m. Come in costume, and bring a treat bag to hold your haul — and remember it can be chillier next to the lake.

In addition, Friessen Development Inc. and Lake Lorraine businesses are sponsoring a Haunted House Decorating Contest for homes across the Sioux Falls area. The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Oct. 24, and you could with prizes from Lake Lorraine businesses. Click here to learn more.

Oct. 16: OctoBEARfest at Great Bear

Ski season is almost in sight, and you can score savings on passes and more at Great Bear Ski Valley’s annual preseason sale. Stop by from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, and enjoy lunch from The Smoked Culture.

Oct. 16: Sip & Chalk at Squealer’s

Here’s another fun way to pass a fall day. Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea hosts this event beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. For $37, you’ll receive a free beverage, a board and pillar or a double-sided spinning bistro that you will create with your choice of design and colors. There are many different design transfers to choose from to make your creation unique. All the tools that you will need will be provided.

Oct. 18: ‘Pumpcculent’ Design Class

The Canton Barn hosts this design class from Alissa’s Flower Farm and Designs beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, allowing you to decorate your table for fall this year with a succulent pumpkin. You will learn the art of making your own “pumpcculent” using a variety of succulents and preserved flowers. Succulent pumpkin last for months — sometimes even up to a year!
