July 7: Free First Friday
Enjoy everything the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center in the Washington Pavilion have to offer from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at no cost. You’ll experience more than 100 amazing exhibits. Admission is first come, first served; check in at the box office. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Other First Friday events in Downtown Sioux Falls include the Eastbank Block Party at 8th & Railroad Center from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Better Ride, Under Cover and 11 Years New will provide the music. Food trucks are Wagoo Burger, Harry’s Yellow Submarine, Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen, The Lunch Box and Pa & Sons. To learn about other activities downtown, click here.

July 7-8: All My Relatives/Mitakuye Owas’in/Mitákuye Oyás’in Festival
This new event celebrating Native American music, art and culture will include two days of activities centered around Levitt at the Falls and the Startup Sioux Falls building. There are multiple free concerts and other performances, plus an art show, culturally informed STEM activities, a vendor fair and fashion show. Click here for complete details.

July 8-9: Summer Arts Festival
Travel an hour north for the Brookings Summer Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Pioneer Park. It will include 175 artists from across the nation representing 15 disciplines of art. There will be gourmet and ethnic food booths.

The Edibles and Naturals area features artisans who produce packaged cottage foods and natural skin products. There also will be historic and antique booths and a children’s area with educational activities.

July 10: Music at McKennan
Root River Jam will perform during the Mondays at McKennan music series, the first show of the season. The band elevates musical improv through the fusion of blues, country, rock and Americana music, drawing from the spark of creativity and individuality in each musician. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Monday.

July 12: Garden tour
What better time to look at local gardens than a day in July when they look their best? The Minnehaha County Master Gardeners is hosting a tour of eight beautiful and unique garden sites. They include private, community and public gardens that Master Gardeners maintain. It’s a self-guided tour that beings at 4 p.m. Wednesday at any garden. Bring your own water bottle. Tickets are $10. Registration is available online at eventbrite.com. Rain date is July 13. Proceeds go to scholarships and educational activities of the Minnehaha County Master Gardeners. Day-of-event tickets will be available Wednesday at Lewis Drug, 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue.

July 12: Hot Summer Nites
Join the Sioux Falls Corvette Club and hundreds of Corvettes from across the nation for Hot Summer Nites, a free car show at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Corvettes will compete in the Nordstrom’s Automotive Quick 60 for cash prizes. There will be music, a beer garden and food trucks. Freewill donations to the Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety –formerly the Children’s Inn — are encouraged.

Upcoming: July 22
Celebrate the city of Brandon’s birthday when Double D Saloon hosts a street dance July 22. Admission is $5 for those 21 and older. Gates open at 6 p.m. There will be food trucks and Urbandale Lanes providing live music from 7 to 11 p.m. After that, the merriment moves inside Double D Saloon, 325 S. Main, with a DJ. Watch for information on family events next Wednesday.
