Dec. 31: Learn to curl

Sioux Falls Curling is hosting a curling class at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Scheels IcePlex, 4300 N. Bobhalla Drive. Local experts will show participants everything they need to know about the sport. Wear comfortable, stretchy, warm clothing and bring along a pair of clean tennis shoes. Lessons are open to people of all ages and abilities. Cost is $20 a person. You can register here.

Jan. 1: Flip Fest

Dakota Spirit will host its first all-day tumbling experience, FlipFest, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at 3910 W. 59th St. Athletes will be separated by level, going through a rotation for both standing and running tumbling. Cost is $75. You can register here.

Jan. 1: First Day

Kick off 2026 with a First Day Hike at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, 26924 480th Ave. It starts at 2 p.m. Thursday. The hike will be about 1 mile long. Dress for the weather with warm layers and good hiking boots. If the temperature is 0 degrees or below, the hike will be canceled. The hike is free, but a park entrance license is required.

Jan. 3: Frosty Frolics

The Frosty Frolics Fun Run, Walk, 5K and 10K will take place along the Big Sioux River, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, hosted by Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation and 605 Running Co. You can register in advance here or at 8 a.m. the day of the event at Spencer Park, 3501 S. Cliff Ave.

Jan. 3: ’90s alt-rock

A high-energy night of ’90s alternative rock will come to Gateway Lounge, 3408 S. Gateway Blvd. Sioux Falls musicians have formed Mr. Feeny — its name is inspired the TV show “Boy Meets World” — and they’ll bring the energy at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Jan. 5: Beer pong

The Upper Cut, 2819 E. 10th St., will host weekly beer pong tournaments starting about 8 p.m. Monday through the winter. Bring a partner, or find one when you show up. The winner takes home an Upper Cut gift card, and there are drink specials all evening.
