July 27: Author Reading with C.C. Berke

If you’ve got a fascination with all things science fiction, you’ll want to hear from this author. C.C. Berke’s “Destination Earth” is a collection of 20 short stories “that will take you on a journey through space, time and reality.” Berke will read from his recently released second book at the Full Circle Book Co-Op, 123 W. 10th St., as well as answer questions about his work. The event from 7 to 9 tonight is free and open to the public.

July 28-31: Broadway and Beyond!

Enjoy musical classics at McKennan Park with Ephemeral Productions’ performance of “Broadway and Beyond!” The free show will take you through performances from shows like “West Side Story” and “Les Miserables” as well as new favorites like “Trolls” and “In the Heights.” Performers of all ages from the Sioux Empire will participate in this family-friendly 90-minute show held at the bandshell. Be sure to bring a chair or a blanket and bug spray. The event is weather-dependent and will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

July 29: Parking Lot Darty at B|Well

B|Well is hosting a day party, or “darty,” Friday to celebrate the opening of its first Sioux Falls location. It’s taking over the Arena Fit location at 1618 S. Sycamore Ave. Drinks from the Bloom Buggy will be available, as well as protein bars from the eat|well line, giveaways and photo opportunities. B|Well is a fitness studio that began in Brookings and offers a variety of different fitness classes for every age level. The opening party will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll be able to meet the staff, tour the studio and have the opportunity to sign up for a class or a membership.

July 30: B-Squad Pup Crawl

Raise money for dogs in need while also getting to try out some great beers at the Pup Crawl hosted by B-Squad Dog Rescue. The Pup Crawl, which will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, will take you to different breweries around downtown Sioux Falls, including Severance , Remedy and WoodGrain. The crawl will end at Covert Artisan Ales and Cellars, where a raffle drawing and silent auction will take place. Multiple dogs available for adoption through B-Squad Dog Rescue will be present. Tickets range from $50 to $70, and you can register either online  or in person at Covert from 1 to 4 p.m.

July 30: Paws & Paintings

It’s a week of celebrating dogs: head to Dunn Brothers Coffee from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for a day of fundraising to benefit the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Dunn Brothers’ full menu of coffee and food will be available, and local artist Edward Eich will be showcasing his work. Eich creates “vibrant pet portraits and abstract spin paintings” and will be painting throughout the day. You can receive a free coffee or tea beverage by donating items from the Humane Society’s wish list or by purchasing a pet painting from Eich. For a list of needed items, click here.

July 30: The Great Cardboard Boat Race

The family favorite Great Cardboard Boat Race is back for another year at Kuehn Pool on Saturday. You’ll race your handmade boat across the pool against other creative contestants. Taking place over five age divisions, the Great Cardboard Boat Race will judge creativity, seaworthiness and sinking time; boats must be made of corrugated cardboard and duct tape and have at least two participants. Registration is required for the event, which is free. Races will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.
