March 10-13: Sioux Empire Sportsmen’s Show

Do you have an interest in all things outdoors? Head to the Sioux Empire Sportsmen’s Show taking place Thursday through Sunday at the Sioux Falls Arena and Convention Center. You’ll get to see presentations from some of the top lodges and campgrounds in the Midwest and Canada, and get to see boats and pontoons at their best Boat Show prices as well as RVs and trailers. There also will be hunting and fishing seminars throughout the weekend. Admission is $12 for teens and adults and $2.50 for those age 6-12. For a full schedule, click here.

March 12: SnirtFest at Great Bear

The skiing and snowboarding season is coming to an end Saturday at Great Bear Ski Valley – tubing is already closed – but the park is giving you one last chance to have some fun before spring really starts. SnirtFest will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. What is Snirt? It’s a combination of snow and dirt – a perfect way to introduce the spring weather. The day will include a Limbo & Ollie contest, a video game-themed costume contest, a Zipfly sled race and more. All proceeds from the event will go to Parkinson’s research. Entry to each event is $5. March 12: National Plant a Flower Day

Celebrate National Plant a Flower Day on Saturday by making a wooden planter to bring a bit of spring to your home. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a class from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Kenny Anderson Community Center, 3701 E. Third St. The class is open to those 18 and older, and for the registration fee of $12, you’ll be provided with the all the materials you’ll need to make and decorate your own wooden planter. You’ll also be able to pot some soil and seeds after you’re done. Register for the class by clicking here.

March 12: “All Kinds” Open Mic

Got a talent of any kind that you’d like to share with the public? Head to the Full Circle Book Co-Op’s “All Kinds” open mic night, where talents from prose and poetry to singing and interpretive dance is welcome. The open mic night takes place every second Saturday of the month. Stop by to entertain or be entertained for free from 8 to 11 p.m. The bookstore is at 123 W. 10th St.

March 13: Feral Housewife Costume Workshop

Want to learn how to be adequately dressed for the apocalypse? Join costumer Klaire Lockheart for a costume-making workshop Sunday, hosted online by the Vermillion Area Arts Council. Aptly titled “Feral Housewife,” Lockheart will show you how to distress clothing and other materials to make accurate apocalypse garb. The workshop is inspired by Lockheart’s work “Thunderdomesticity,” which draws on events of the 2020s to create a post-apocalyptic landscape. The workshop will take place on Zoom from 3 to 4 p.m., and will cost $20. Register by Friday by clicking here. Participants will be invited to wear their costumes to the Thunderdomesticity Party on March 19 at the Vermillion Area Arts Council.

March 14: March Madness Basketball Skills

Help your little one learn to be a basketball star this March Madness. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a basketball clinic for 4- and 5-year-olds that will include workshops on dribbling, passing, shooting and ball handling. Registration is required for the class and will cost $5. The basketball clinic will take place at the Kenny Anderson Community Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday. To register, click here.
