The week ahead: July 25-31
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
July 25: Living library
What is a living library? Like a traditional library, it offers a range of titles and topics. The difference is that the “books” are real people, whom you can talk with rather than read about. Eight people with different disabilities will share their unique lived experiences in a safe space for conversation and questions. Cold treats will be available for purchase from the The Ice Cream Truck — SDSU Ice Cream, and interpreters will be available. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sertoma Park, 4300 S. Oxbow Ave. No registration is required.

July 26-27: Native American celebration
Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ, or All My Relatives, is a festival celebrating Native American music, art and culture at Levitt Sioux Falls. The free event includes three Levitt concert performances at 7 p.m. Friday with Kelly Jackson, 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Starr Chief Eagle and 7 p.m. Saturday with Supaman. Activities throughout Saturday include a vendor fair, a fashion show sponsored by Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board, panel discussions and children’s activities. Find the details here.

July 27: Chislic!
Time to hit the road for the South Dakota Chislic Festival on Saturday in Freeman. Events will begin at 8 a.m. with the Mutton Run 10K, 5K and 1-mile walk/run. Other events include a disc golf tournament, live music, Phil Baker performing for the kids and chislic served from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can find a complete schedule of activities here.

July 27: Grocery Olympics
Stockyards Ag Experience is hosting a Grocery Olympics to test your knowledge of grocery products. Contestants will gain points through the groceries they collect and have the chance to win a prize based on points. It will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the 301 E. Falls Park Drive.

July 27: Car show
Enjoy a night in downtown Sioux Falls from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday with music, food and hundreds of classic cars at the seventh annual Nyberg’s Ace Hot Classics Night at 200 E. 12th St. Multiple food trucks will be at the scene with live music by The Last Call and The Men in Black. Showcase vehicles may enter at First Avenue and 14th Street beginning at 2 p.m. No registration is needed, and the event is free. Parking for non-show cars is at the city parking ramp at 11th Street and First Avenue. Proceeds go to El Riad Classic Autos.

July 31: Live music
Hello Hi-Fidelity will present live music from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday at 120 S. Phillips Ave. With Unknown Pleasures, you’ll hear punk, post-punk, indie, psychedelic, alternative, shoegaze and more. There’s no cover.
