April 1: DakotAbilities First Friday Exhibition
DakotAbilities, artist Edward Eich and Van Art Studios are presenting a First Friday exhibition of work created by the people of DakotAbilities, in collaboration with Eich. The exhibition will support Meaningful Day, a program within DakotAbilities that “connects people supported with their passions and their community,” and includes activities such as music and fitness. The exhibition will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Van Art Studios, 118 N. Phillips Ave.

April 1: Mystery Movie at the State Theatre
The State Theatre is hosting a new event that should be fun and exciting for the whole family. The Mystery Movie event will be Friday night. What’s a Mystery Movie event? The State Theatre has picked a movie to play — and you won’t know which movie is playing until it begins. The only hints: The movie is rated PG and has a release date of either the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s. The movie will begin at 7 p.m. To buy tickets, click here.

April 1: Downtown First Friday
Click here for the complete guide to First Friday. Here are a couple of highlights:

Adopt + Shop First Friday: Head to Primp boutique from 5 to 7 p.m. where there will be adoptable dogs from Almost Home Canine Rescue. When you shop, you’ll support the organization.
First Friday Pizza Party with Hard Italian Sodas: Full Circle Book Co-op has teamed up with Sunny’s Pizzeria to offer pizza paired with books, beer and wine from 5 to 10 p.m. Order from your table, and Sunny’s will deliver. Full Circle also will launch its Italian sodas with hard and soft options — the hard version features Fernson’s Skip Day seltzer.
April 2: Craft and Vendor Fair
Peace Lutheran Church is hosting a Craft and Vendor Fair on Saturday with more than 20 vendors selling everything from handmade quilts to clay earrings to dog bandanas. The fair will benefit students planning to attend camp with Peace Lutheran this summer. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 5509 W. 41st St.

April 2: Chilly Cheeks Race
The Chilly Cheeks Race that kicks off springtime — and good weather — will take place Saturday, and, like the previous year, there will be a 10-mile race in addition to a 5k and 5-mile race. The races will begin at 8 a.m. at Riverdale Park and culminate at 1 p.m. at the same location, where awards will be given out and food and drink will be provided. To sign up for any of the races, click here.

April 2: One Book Siouxland Celebrating Native American Culture
Help kick off One Book Siouxland programming with a celebration of Native American culture on Saturday afternoon at the Downtown Library. Buy food from the Watecha Bowl truck, listen to Jeremy Fogg talk about his art, learn about the role of food in Native American culture from Watecha owner Lawrence West and enjoy a performance from storyteller, hoop dancer and indigenous flute player Kevin Locke. Get the full schedule here.

April 2: Sioux Empire Blogger Sale
Join some of the bloggers of the Sioux Empire for a day of shopping, music and drinks. Instagram influencers Kayla Waldner, Marilyn Dikun and Erica Wilcox have come together to give the public a chance to shop directly from their closets, along with home decor and new skin care and makeup. DJ Joshua Wayne will be playing, and mimosas and bouquets from the Bouquet Bar will be available. The sale will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at 2111 W. 49th St.

April 3: Kickin’ Cancer Jam
The Pink Ladies are raising money for cancer with their annual Kickin’ Cancer Jam at the El Riad Shrine. The event, which is a Larchwood-style dart tournament, will help local families battling the illness. There also will be live music from bands, including Somebody or Someone and Southside Pine. It will cost $15 to join the tournament, which will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday. Registration will begin at noon.
