The Week Ahead: Feb. 3-9
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Feb. 3: Meet author Cindy Wilson
If you’re a fan of the Little House on the Prairie series, you’re probably familiar with the winter the Ingalls family endured in 1880-81. Laura Ingalls Wilder’s novel “The Long Winter” fictionally details the events of one of the most devastating winters ever recorded in the Midwest. Author Cindy Wilson, however, has helped contextualize the fictional events with real happenings in her novel, “The Beautiful Snow.” Wilson will be speaking at the Old Courthouse Museum at Sixth and Main about her book and her research process. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and is free.

Feb. 4-6: Winterfest of Wheels 2022
The annual Winterfest of Wheels event will be Friday through Sunday at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The event, which consists of a car show, vendors selling women’s goods and fine art sales, supports Cure Kids Cancer. This year, vendors also will be selling novelty items like neon signs, garage art and vehicle parts. Tickets can be bought at the door for $11, and children 12 and younger are free. For a full schedule of the weekend, click here.

Feb. 5: Ice Cream for Breakfast
Celebrate with Stensland Family Farms, and come in your pajamas to have ice cream for breakfast. Enjoy waffles, chai latte floats, caramel roll bake and hot chocolate floats at any Sioux Falls location. Ten percent of all proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire. Treats will be served from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Feb. 5: Great Bear College ID Night
Great Bear will have a College ID Night on Saturday, where all college students possessing a valid ID will receive discounts on skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Save $8 on skiing and snowboarding, $7 on tubing and $8 on equipment rentals. A portion of profits will go to State-A-Thon, which supports the Sanford Children’s Hospital.

Feb. 5: Snowflakes and Silks
Want to see a unique combination of gymnastics, dance and art? Visit the 605 Aerial Silks Winter Student Showcase, aptly titled Snowflakes and Silks. The showcase will highlight students of all different skill levels in aerial silks, which consists of aerial acrobatic skills performed in the air, while the performers are hanging from fabric. The show begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at 605 Ninja, which is on the west side of the Western Mall. Tickets are $5.

Feb. 8: Valentine Candy Jar Creations
In this arts and crafts class, give your child the chance to make a special Valentine. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a Valentine Candy Jar class, where you’ll decorate a canning jar with ribbon, paint and other festive items. Then, just fill it with treats for a gift any parent – or special Valentine – will love. The class will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kenny Anderson Community Center, which is located at 3701 E. Third St., adjacent to Anne Sullivan Elementary. To register for the class, which costs $5, click here.
