April 5: Zentangle for moms

Zentangle is a relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. The Anchored Homeschool Resource Center, 3712 S. Westport Ave., is offering mothers a chance to learn the therapeutic benefits of Zentangle from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday. Please RSVP for the free event at anchoredhrc.com.

April 5: Artist reception

Examining the mythological harmony of the natural world, “Unnatural Order” is an imaginative amalgamation of texture, color and light by artists Bryan Holland and Steve Bormes. Both artists will be present during a public reception at Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing, 431 N. Phillips Ave., from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.

April 6 and 8: Eclipse celebration

A celebration of the total solar eclipse will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday with events at the Washington Pavilion’s Kirby Science Discovery Center, Visual Arts Center and the Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium. The solar eclipse will be Monday. To begin the celebration, the Washington Pavilion will show its new immersive film, “Totality,” at noon and 4 p.m. Activities will include building a solar eclipse viewer and other children’s activities in the Raven Children’s Studio. “Totality” tickets will cost $8 for the film only, $5 as part of a museum admission and $4 for members. All other activities are free with museum admission. On Monday, an event from noon to 3:30 p.m. will include a showing of “Totality” at 12:15 p.m. with live total eclipse streaming beginning at 12:45 p.m. The livestream is in real time from a location that will see the eclipse at 100 percent. Cost is $8, and members will receive a 10 percent discount.

April 6: One Book kickoff

The 2024 One Book Siouxland kickoff event for “Don’t Look Back” by Achut Deng and Keely Hutton will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Siouxland Libraries’ main branch, 200 N. Dakota Ave. Participants can discus the book, try authentic African food and enjoy a performance by the Nepalese dance group NSKK. A refugee display, Seeking Safety, and the High School Art Expo, Looking Forward, can be viewed at the Downtown Library through April.

April 6: Let ‘Er Buck

With PBR bull riding this weekend in Sioux Falls, WilLiquors at 3625 W. Avera Drive will host a mechanical bull riding event, Let ‘Er Buck, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. It’s an event open to all ages who want to see if they can cowboy-up for eight seconds.

April 7: Chamber music

A chamber music concert by the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra will be presented at 1 p.m. Sunday in Augustana University’s Hamre Hall. The Dakota String Quartet and the Dakota Wind Quintet will perform with Anne Waltner at the piano. To purchase tickets, click on this link.
