Dec. 5: Fiddling around

Some of South Dakota’s most recognized fiddler players will gather Thursday for a “Holiday for Fiddlers.” Kenny Putnam, Tom Schaefer and Owen Dejong will be joined by an all-star support band, including Boyd Bristow, Mike Conner, Al Remund and Larry Rohrer, featuring Brian and Kaija Bonde. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion. Tickets cost $48.50; call 605-667-6000 for tickets.

Dec. 6-7: Art collective

Dec. 6: Sherlock at Christmas

The Mighty Corson Art Players will premiere “A Sherlock Carol” at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 25993 482nd Ave., Brandon. Dec. 7: Santa and mimosas

The sixth annual Santa & Mimosas at Oakridge Nursery & Landscaping, 2217 S. Splitrock Blvd., Brandon, will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday with holiday fun for children and parents. Tami Carda Photography will take photos, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present. There will be a coloring contest, giveaways, prizes, cookies, a hot cocoa bar and mimosas.

Dec. 7: Holiday trees at Good Earth

Head just outside of town to Good Earth State Park for the official lighting of its 14 holiday trees set up inside visitor center. Santa  will be present to visit with the children, and Holly VandenBerg will be performing live holiday music from 5 to 7 p.m.  The event is free to attend, but a South Dakota State Park entrance license is required. The trees will be up through Jan. 4. The golden bison is hidden daily. Find it, and win a prize!

Dec. 9: Portrait painting

Chuds Pub and Grub, 403 Holder St., Larchwood, Iowa, will offer a date night with couples’ portrait painting. The class from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday is $60 a couple, and Chuds will supply all the materials for the paintings, a free beverage of your choice for each person and a charcuterie board for two.
