The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Various dates: Light the Park

Garretson’s Split Rock Park offers the perfect reason for a little road trip.

Individuals, groups and businesses claim areas of the park and decorate them. The park is lit up for visitors daily from 5  to 10 p.m. until Jan. 2. Click here for information.

Dec. 21: Winter Wonderland Run

The Sioux Falls Area Running Club will be doing a run through the Winter Wonderland lights at Falls Park. The run will begin at Falls Park and continue through the bike trail and downtown. All skill levels are welcome, and the run will be choose-your-own distance. They’ll meet at Falls Overlook Cafe at 6:30 p.m. Make sure to bring your cold-weather gear!

Dec. 21: Library trivia night at WoodGrain Brewing Co.

Test your trivia skills, and compete for prizes at this event co-hosted by WoodGrain Brewing Co. and Siouxland Libraries starting at 6 p.m. at the brewery, 101 S. Phillips Ave. Teams can be six members or less.

Attendance is limited to 60 people, and sign-up is the night of the event. A library staff member will get you registered. WoodGrain is an all-ages venue, but you must be 21 or older to purchase alcohol. The food truck Tacos de Gringo will be there too.

Dec. 23: Dueling Duo at PAve

Looking for some free entertainment this week? PAve will be hosting the Dueling Duo for a free concert. The Dueling Duo, which actually consists of three musicians,  have performed over 1,300 shows in nine states and are well-known for their interactive and engaging performances. Their performance will begin at 9 p.m. PAve is 21 and older only.

Dec. 25: X-mas Game Day

Not everyone’s life equals a traditional Christmas Day, so for those looking for something different, video game store Nrdvana is hosting a game day, with fun and food all day, which will include a white elephant gift exchange at 8 p.m. The store opens at 10 a.m.

Bring your favorite games or borrow them. The store is located at 1744 S. Cliff Ave. “There’s no need to sit alone on Christmas Day,” the store said. “Feel free to share with anyone you feel would love to game all day on Christmas and receive a nerdy gift.”

Dec. 25: Christmas Day Celebration with Union Gospel Mission

The Union Gospel Mission is looking for volunteers to help out and celebrate on Christmas Day. Services needed include serving the Christmas meal, distributing toys and helping with chapel service times. Special guest performances and activities will be provided.

Volunteer services are needed at the Men’s Center on Weber Avenue and at the main office on Eighth St. You can sign up to volunteer at volunteer.helplinecenter.org.

Dec. 25: Holiday viewing

If you’re staying in for Christmas, tune in to “A Prairie Christmas,” hosted by Jeff Gould, at 3 p.m. on KELO-TV.

This Christmas show was recorded at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in front of active military members, veterans and their families.
