June 4: Eastbank Block Party

Head to 8th & Railroad Center from 5:30 to 11 p.m. this First Friday.

Here’s the music lineup:

  • Better Ride, an Americana/folk rock band from Aberdeen.
  • Back Alley, a folk rock band with a very broad musical palate.
  • Headliner Tuff Roots, a reggae band from Sioux Falls with members from different musical backgrounds.

Food trucks include:

  • Breaking Burrito
  • Gyros & More
  • Ollies
  • SDSU Ice Cream
  • Stone’s Famous Kettle Corn

June 5: The Hero Experience

Meet your favorite super heroes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance courtesy of Sioux Falls Batman, Schulte Subaru and other sponsors. Plus, enjoy games and food trucks. At 7 p.m., a hero/villain charity dinner and magic show will benefit Sanford Children’s Miracle Network. Click here to learn more.

June 5: Ag Day

The Washington Pavilion’s annual Ag Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the first and second floor and outside in the Paladino Hohm Sculpture Garden. Plus, there’s free admission to the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center.

Enjoy a variety of exhibits and experiences at Ag Day including:

  • Digital farm tour.
  • Marble track activity.
  • Pumpkin seed planting.
  • I Spy Farm display.
  • Prepackaged planting corn scavenger hunt.

June 5: Bike the Big Sioux

In celebration of  World Bicycle Day, go on a self-guided bike ride along the Big Sioux River. The route will run from Fawick to Cherry Rock parks, traveling on both sides of the river. Gather at Fawick Park before and after your bike ride for music, fun and games from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pack a picnic lunch, and play family-fun games, including bean bags, ladder golf, ramp shot and washer toss. Erik’s Bike Shop will  be on hand to give your bike a quick checkup. Registration required.

June 5: Second-Chance Prom

OK, this sounds fun. Source your best ’80s attire, and head to Canton for a throwback prom night from 7 p.m. to midnight at Gate City Events. There’s a DJ, cash bar and snacks. It’s $15 per person or $25 per couple at the door. And you’re raising money for the new Canton swimming pool. Total win.

June 5-6: Siouxland Renaissance Festival

It’s the 20th anniversary of the festival that draws participants and entertainers from across the country. Held at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, you’ll find an expansive village market, entertainers galore, a scavenger hunt and kids’ area. Click here for  information.

June 7: Road races

Monday night road races run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Spencer Park every week in June. Races will be 3,000 and 5,000 meters. They will follow the greenway recreation trail. No registration required.

June 8: Kayaking the Big Sioux River Tours

Enjoy a quiet afternoon on the Big Sioux River, a mix of urban and scenic nature. Learn padding basics and all about reading the river. All gear will be provided by Sioux Empire Paddlers and Sioux Falls Kayak Rental. Tours run from 1 to 4 p.m. on various dates this summer, including June 8. River trips will be from Farm Field Park at 57th and Western to downtown Sioux Falls.
