April 20: Songwriter event

The South Dakota Women and Trans Musicians Network will host its first event in eastern South Dakota on Thursday. A Songwriter Circle and Networking Event will begin at 6 p.m. at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St. Songwriters participating include Janice Gilbert, Dyland Daniels and Morgan Carnes of Humbletown. Attendance is free, but a $10 donation is suggested.

April  20 and 22: Earth Day events

Earth Day events hosted by the city of Sioux Falls include the Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The eighth annual cleanup will take place at seven locations along the recreation trail. Volunteers will receive bags, maps and gloves at sign-up. Registration is appreciated but not required. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will offer an Earth Day Explorers Hike for kids age 6 to 9. It includes a service project, craft and other outdoor-themed activities. It runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Family Park. Cost is $10 per participant. You must register here. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade also can celebrate Earth Day with crafts and hands-on activities at a drop-in program at the Siouxland Libraries’ main branch from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

April 21-22: Junkin’ Market

Junkin’ Market Days will host its spring event from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds. The indoor event features more than 100 small-business owners selling boutique clothes, jewelry, home decor, furniture, bath and body products, candles and gourmet foods. General admission is $5. April 22: Sioux Empire Blogger Closet Sale

Shop the closets of five local fashionistas at a sale that will include not just women’s apparel and accessories but baby and kids’ clothes as well. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Ridge Event Barn. 47675 Slip Up Creek Road. Click here for information. 

April 22: Earth Day at The Empire

The Empire Mall will celebrate Earth Day with a special event focused on sustainability, recycling and more. The first 150 kids to check in at the mall’s center court at 11 a.m. Saturday will receive a complimentary gift bag and seedling to plant. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids can take part in crafts, activities, games and snacks.

April 22: Downtown Scavenger Hunt

Start at Remedy Brewing Co., end at Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars and in between go on a fun-filled scavenger hunt throughout downtown Sioux Falls to benefit Sioux Empire Pit Rescue and win prizes. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Click here for details.

April 22: Pot your plants

Landscape Garden Centers, 47238 271st St., is hosting Refresh and Repot from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Bring an indoor plant — or up to 10 — and learn proper repotting techniques to give the plants a fresh start. All attendees receive 25 percent off any pottery purchase. Raw vegan chef Emily Wilson, owner of Bee Loved Kitchen, will have refreshments for purchase.

April 22: Dakota Clay

Walters HiHo Tavern, 1014 E. Eighth St., invites you to celebrate Earth Day with “two feet on the ground, your head in the clouds and cold beer in your hand” and the Dakota Clay Band performing. The evening begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. There is no cover charge.
