Police are looking for a second person thought to have fired a gun Friday night inside The Empire Mall. Here’s the latest on the case.
One month after Sioux Falls announced an increased focus on nuisance issues downtown, there are reported improvements — and more changes coming.
They pulled someone over downtown, and “the next thing we know, we’ve got a line of people lined up. And we hear them saying, ‘Hey, this is the unit that helps people.’”
The city of Sioux Falls is taking steps to discourage nuisance behavior downtown, and the mayor and police chief are calling on the public to do their part.
Mayor on issues downtown: “Before we get to the root causes, we have to deal with the symptoms.”
“If you’re a violent criminal in town, you should know that we’re paying attention to you.”
She moved from Arizona seeking a safer place for her family – and now thanks to a new program is helping keep Sioux Falls a safer place too.

Sioux Falls violent crime per capita dropped to the lowest level since 2019 last year, as homicides hit a low not seen since 2009.
