Road Report: May 18, 2026
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Arrowhead & Veterans: A lot of change is coming this week to the work at the intersection of Arrowhead and Veterans parkways.

On Thursday, May 21, Arrowhead Parkway will reopen to traffic east of Veterans Parkway, and traffic on Veterans will be switched over to the newly constructed concrete pavement on the east side of the intersection.

That same day, Arrowhead will close between Highline Avenue and Veterans to allow crews to reconstruct the west half of the project.

Motorists should use Veterans, Six Mile Road or Sycamore Avenue to either Madison, Sixth, 26th or 41st streets as alternate routes around the closure on Arrowhead.

The remaining work on Arrowhead Parkway is expected to be complete later this fall.

Russell Street: The concrete repairs on Russell Street are going well. Work on the inside and center eastbound lanes between West and Minnesota avenues will be complete within the next week or so.

Then, work will shift to the outside eastbound lane between West and Minnesota.

Work in this lane should take only two to three weeks. Next, work will shift to the westbound lanes between West and Minnesota.
Work was completed last week on the concrete repairs at the intersection of Russell Street and Westport/Louise avenues.

This intersection will receive an asphalt overlay sometime in June that will require a full closure of Russell Street overnight between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. over two consecutive days. All work on this project will be complete in October.

South Veterans Parkway: Concrete paving is underway on South Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Sycamore avenues.

Paving work right now is occurring near the Sycamore Avenue intersection and moving its way west.

Work also is continuing on the bridge over the railroad tracks just east of Cliff. Sycamore is closed between 69th and 85th streets. Southeastern Avenue remains open but also will close between 69th and 85th after school is out for the summer.

Both Sycamore and Southeastern will reopen to traffic before school starts this fall.

All work on this project will be complete in November.

Phillips Avenue: The northbound lane on Phillips Avenue closed between Second and Fourth streets on May 13 to allow crews to complete utility improvements. Northbound traffic is being detoured to Main Avenue. Southbound traffic is not impacted. This work is expected to be complete by the end of May.
River Road: The outside westbound lane of River Road closed between 10th Street and Mall Avenue on May 13 to allow crews to remove and replace the pavers along the sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
What’s next
Russell/North: Beginning today, the eastbound right turn lane from Russell Street onto Main Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform utility work. The eastbound parking lane on Russell Street/North Drive also will be closed east of Main. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
