Road Report: July 5, 2022
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
Ninth Street: Ninth Street is now fully open between Phillips and Main avenues.
What’s underway
26th Street: The outside eastbound lane on 26th Street between Highline Avenue and Veterans Parkway closed June 29 to allow for construction of an eastbound right turn lane to an access. This work is expected to be complete by mid-July.
Westport Avenue: Westport Avenue closed from 43rd to 47th streets June 29 to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to take about one week.
49th Street: The work on the 49th Street extension between Western and West avenues is nearing completion. All paving and dirt work is complete, and all lanes on Western are open to traffic.

The only work remaining is finalizing the traffic signals, landscaping and pavement markings. It still will be several weeks before this new segment of 49th opens to traffic.

Marion Road: Work is in progress on Marion Road north of Foundation Park. Crews currently are installing underground utilities. This project will open to traffic later this fall.

Overhead views: Drones are being used more in the construction industry. They are a useful tool for planning and observation, giving a wider perspective on various projects.
Here’s a look at work on 41st Street and Sycamore Avenue:

What’s next
57th Street: Beginning today, lane closures will begin on eastbound 57th Street between Western Avenue and the interstate tunnel to allow crews to perform concrete pavement repairs. The lane closures will begin with the outside eastbound lanes and move to the inside lanes as work progresses. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Sycamore Avenue: Beginning today, North Sycamore Avenue will be closed between Benson Road and Producer Lane to allow crews to complete road improvements. Work is anticipated to be completed by late fall of 2022.
Minnesota Avenue: Beginning Wednesday, the outside southbound lane on Minnesota Avenue at 23rd Street will be closed to allow crews to perform a concrete pavement repair. One southbound lane will be maintained at all times during construction. The west sidewalk also will be closed between 22nd and 24th streets, with pedestrian traffic being detoured to the east side of Minnesota Avenue. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
41st Street: On Wednesday, traffic on 41st Street will shift to the newly paved lanes on the south side of the street between Marion Road and Meadow Avenue as crews move into the next phase of work on 41st.
Marion Road: Marion Road between 39th and 41st streets will be reduced to three lanes from Wednesday through Monday in preparation for road reconstruction. Beginning Monday, that stetch of Marion will be closed to traffic for approximately two months while the road is rebuilt. Drivers should use Sertoma Avenue and 26th Street as alternate routes.
