Road Report: Aug. 7, 2023
Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
32nd Street: On Aug. 1, 32nd Street closed between Ellis Road and Wheatland Avenue to allow crews to perform utility work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Tallgrass Avenue: On Aug. 2, Tallgrass Avenue closed between 74th and 89th streets to allow crews to perform grading work, install underground utilities and construct the street surfacing at Tallgrass and 85th Street.

The project is anticipated to be reopened to traffic in late November for the winter.

Construction will resume in the spring of 2024, with final completion in the summer of 2024.

Tallgrass traffic should use Louise Avenue as an alternate route.

Cliff Avenue: The outside northbound lane of Cliff Avenue closed between First and Chambers streets on Aug. 3 to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Marion Road: Work is in progress on Marion Road just south of the Crooks/Renner Road.

This project is installing underground utilities and constructing a concrete roadway from the Crooks/Renner Road to the south to allow paved access to the next phase of Foundation Park.

The contractor has completed the watermain along Marion and is installing the storm drainage system.

Work will impact County Highway 130 in September and October – a full closure and detour will be in place during this time frame.

All work is expected to be complete in November.

Veterans Parkway: A lot is happening on the South Veterans Parkway project.

The first concrete pavement was installed at the Cliff Avenue intersection recently, grading work continues, and the bridge piles — or bridge supports — are being installed.

A full closure on Minnesota Avenue will take place later this summer and fall for approximately one month to allow crews to construct that intersection yet this year.

All work on this project won’t be complete until late 2024.

What’s next
Phillips Avenue: Beginning today, Phillips Avenue will be closed from Eighth to Ninth streets to allow crews to apply a slurry seal. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
I-229: Beginning at 8 p.m. today, the northbound lanes of Interstate 229 will be closed from Benson Road to Interstate 90 to allow contractors to perform touch-up painting on the bridge over the interstate at 60th Street North. The work is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
I-229: Beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the southbound off-ramp from I-229 to Cliff Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Benson Road: Beginning Tuesday, the outside eastbound lane of Benson Road will be closed between Minnesota and Fourth avenues to allow crews to bore electrical utility lines. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Farm Field Park: Beginning Tuesday, Farm Field Park at 57th Street and Western Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow crews to make improvements to the parking lot. The park will remain open via pedestrian/bike access from the bike trail. This work is expected to be complete in early September.
