Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

Lewis & Clark along Ellis Road: The contractor continues to make steady progress on the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System connection project on the west side of Sioux Falls.

The boring under 12th Street has been completed.

Currently, the contractor is installing water main along the west side of Ellis Road, just south of the intersection with 12th Street, and is working north toward that intersection.

From there, construction will continue west along 12th for approximately one mile.

This project is part of a broader effort to establish a third connection between the city of Sioux Falls’ water distribution system and the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System.

The final connection to the Lewis & Clark water main is scheduled for 2026.

12th Street: Work progresses on 12th Street between Marion and Ellis roads.

The outside eastbound and westbound lanes remain closed in this section.

The contractor has completed edge milling on the outside eastbound lanes and currently is replacing the accessible curb ramps at Valley View Road and performing drainage repairs in the outside westbound lanes while also completing curb, gutter and inlet repairs on the eastbound side.

Once all concrete repairs are completed, the roadway will be overlaid with asphalt.

Additional project work includes storm drainage improvements, lighting upgrades and traffic system enhancements.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-September.

Cliff & I-229: Concrete paving began last week on Cliff Avenue in front of Lincoln High School.

Paving on 41st Street west of Cliff is nearing completion.

Additional paving on Cliff is scheduled to occur the next couple of weeks.

The north bridge piers for Interstate 229 have been completed, and girders will be installed in the coming weeks.

The section of 41st Street from Minnesota to Cliff avenues was milled and overlayed.

The entire project is expected to be completed by late 2026.

What’s next

Heatherridge Avenue: Beginning today, South Heatherridge Avenue will be closed on the west side of the intersection at Grange Avenue to allow crews to perform repairs on the concrete valley gutter. Motorists should utilize Stonegate Drive to enter and exit the neighborhood. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in one week.

Whispering Street: Beginning today, Whispering Street will be closed on the east side of the intersection at Grange Avenue to allow crews to perform repairs on the concrete valley gutter. Motorists should utilize Golden Eagle Street to enter and exit the neighborhood. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in one week.

52nd Street North: Beginning today, 52nd Street North will have utility work east of Cliff Avenue. Traffic will be maintained around the work site with one-lane traffic. The work is anticipated to be complete by Thursday morning.

Maple Street: Beginning on Wednesday, Maple Street will be closed between La Mesa Drive and Marion Road to allow the contractor to make a new utility connection. Traffic will be detoured onto Madison Street. This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day Aug. 13.
