July 31: The Great Cardboard Boat Race

Whether you’re a competitor or spectator, it’s worth a trip to Kuehn Pool from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as cardboard boats vie for the win in five age divisions. Boats are judged on their creativity and seaworthiness. Each boat will need up to two participants to commandeer the course. Boats must be constructed using corrugated cardboard and duct tape, with no wood, styrofoam, fiberglass, paint or plastic. Life jackets for this event will be provided and must be worn by contestants. Swimsuits are required. Active swim pass or daily admission required. Registration required — click here.

July 31: Top Dog Contest

Is your dog the cutest, best-dressed or even ugliest in town? Bring him or her to the pregame festivities for the Sioux Falls Storm from 3 to 5 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, and bring a bio for your dog. Each division registration is $15. Each registration includes a ticket to the game that evening. All dogs will receive a swag bag of goodies, and the winners will take home some great prizes. Proceeds go to Big Paws Canine Foundation, whose primary mission is to provide service and companion dogs to disabled veterans and former first responders injured in the line of duty.
