4 new things to eat this week

We cover new restaurant openings literally all the time at our sister site, SiouxFalls.Business, which also means we can dig into the menu so you know what’s in store for you. Here are our four picks to eat this week.

The new Ranch & Roost that’s part of Big Lost Meadery at Lake Lorraine features smashburgers and chicken sandwiches. Our pick is the classic cheeseburger. We’ll take ours with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions, ketchup and mustard, but you also can get sauteed mushrooms, grilled onions, applewood bacon, sauteed jalapenos, mayo, buffalo sauce or barbecue sauce. The meat for the patties is sourced from a couple of South Dakota ranches and is ground fresh daily. The restaurant and brewery are on the north side of the lake at 2215 S. Lorraine Place.

If you haven’t tried Simon’s Tacos in the three years it has been open on Louise Avenue, now there’s an east-side version too. The Mexican restaurant at 2401 E. 10th St. has an extensive menu, but the specialty is birria. Enjoy the slow-cooked, juicy beef in several menu items, including the birria tacos with cheese, onions and cilantro in a grilled corn tortilla with consomme for dipping.

Mardi Gras season is almost over, but there’s a new limited-time special to try at Jack Rose Social Club. The restaurant at 69th and Western is featuring gumbo. It’s a traditional version with shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage, veggies and spices, along with jasmine rice.

The color alone makes this new menu item worthy of a spot on the list. DQ has introduced the Crunchin’ Cookie Dipped Cone. The blue shell is packed with cookie pieces, adding crunch to every bite of the soft-serve cones.
