Your guide to holiday season fun at the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium

Craft butterflies, meet Santa, and embrace a gingerbread experience at a series of memorable events coming up at the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium.

Here’s your guide to the holiday season ahead.

Evening at BHA

The Butterfly House & Aquarium stays open late on select Friday nights, including Nov. 14, when the hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Experience the magic of an event at the butterfly conservatory and aquarium while participating in a special butterfly shadow-box-making class. It runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. while supplies last. The evening is included with regular admission and memberships.

Santa at the Zoo

Santa pays a visit to the Great Plains Zoo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 5. Enjoy craft stations, ambassador animal meet-and-greets — plus an appearance by the Grinch.

Kids can get creative at a craft station, where they’ll have the opportunity to write and hand-deliver their letter to Santa.

The event is included with admission and memberships. Renew your membership that day, and take advantage of a special offer. Plus, shop SFZA collector cards, apparel, plush animals and other items that are perfect for holiday gifting.

Holiday at BHA

Head to the Butterfly House & Aquarium on Dec. 13 for a gingerbread-themed experience from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll find plenty of photo-ops, sweet treats and gingerbread sticker crafts.

Holiday classic movies will be playing, plus keep working on your holiday shopping list by browsing unique apparel, butterfly wing jewelry and other gift items.

The event is included with your regular admission or membership.

Zoo Lover’s Day

School is out for the holiday break, and the Great Plains Zoo is the place to be, especially on Dec. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• 11 a.m.: Snow monkeys
• Noon: Snow leopards
• 1 p.m.: African lions
