Trade in old ski, snowboard gear this week to cash in on new products

Dig through the garage, find your old ski and snowboard gear and then bring it to Spoke-N-Sport to turn that old gear into gift cards.

On Nov. 20 and 21, the location at 2019 S. Minnesota Ave. will host a trade event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“Trade in your old ski and snowboard gear for gift cards you can either use for new ski and snowboard gear or bank for bike stuff,” owner Chad Pickard said. “We also have a brand-new super cool infrared waxer that we’re going to break in, so we’ll be offering free waxes for anyone that wants to drop off their skis and snowboards on Saturday.”

Spoke-N-Sport has done a similar swap twice with bikes and will do another this coming summer.

“We’ve had a huge turnout with our trade events. It was great,” Pickard said. “Both years, we had 200 to 250 bikes turned in, and some chose to use their gift cards right away while some chose to wait. It was such a fun event, so we’re looking forward to doing it with ski and snowboard gear.”

Currently, there’s a nice selection of winter gear, “but it’s not going to last long,” Pickard added. “Later in the season, it will be hard to get stuff. Indoor smart trainers also are currently in stock, but they will be hard to get after December.”

Spoke-N-Sport is the city’s only full-service ski and snowboard shop. Brands include Burton, Rossignol, Arbor, Atomic, Armada, Outdoor Research, Red Feather Snowshoes, Tubbs Snowshoes and more.

“All our work is done in-house, and we also do custom boot fitting,” Pickard said. “It’s definitely a growing part of our business, so we’re excited to connect with a lot of skiers and snowboarders this weekend.”
