Beneath the bright lights of McEneaney Field this fall, a wave of blue and gold will sweep the stands.

It’s the Bob Burns Dakota Bowl XLVII, a cherished O’Gorman Knights tradition that unites students, families and alumni in celebration, spirit and community.

Here are 5 things you should know about this event!

1. It’s a beloved tradition

The Bob Burns Dakota Bowl is much more than a football game — it’s a tradition. It’s a community-building fundraiser that supports all eight schools within the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools system.

Its history is a true testament to school spirit and unity throughout the Knights community from not just students and parents but also alumni and supporters.

2. This year, the excitement unfolds across two days

Friday, Sept. 12:

• • Dakota Bowl Football & Cheer Camps take place at O’Gorman High School’s McEneaney Field starting at 5:30 p.m. K–6 students can participate in activities alongside the O’Gorman football and cheer teams.
  • Knight Out event starts at 7 p.m. with live music from the Crabgrass Crew Band, a beer garden and food truck!

Saturday, Sept. 13: The main game kicks off under the lights, with the tailgate starting at 1 p.m. Tickets to the game are on sale now!

3. Fun for all ages: Camps & Kid’s Zone

• Camps: On Friday evening, little athletes and cheerleaders from kindergarten through sixth grade get to play, learn and perform alongside OGHS players and cheer squads. Every camper gets a shirt, game ticket and more — for just $45! Register here.
• Kid’s Zone: On game day, from 1 to 3 p.m., kiddos can enjoy inflatables, face painting and meet parent ambassadors from all schools — ensuring a fun, family-friendly atmosphere before kickoff.

Save time and money by purchasing tickets online early — just $10. Prices increase to $15 at the gate.

5. It’s a fundraiser for all eight schools

The Dakota Bowl traces its roots to a 1978 high school game in Sioux Falls; Bob Burns, a legendary coach at O’Gorman High School, helped shape the event into a lasting fundraiser and community tradition. To date, the overall event has raised about $4 million and draws over 4,000 fans.
