Thinking about refreshing your home? Here are your top 3 trends to consider

Furniture is evolving fast — which means many opportunities to give your home a new look or incorporate emerging trends as you build new.
The team at Montgomery’s recently returned from one of its major industry trade shows filled with first looks at new products and fresh ideas for design.

“I’m really excited about the future of design,” visual merchandising manager Karli Strain said.
“It was truly an inspirational market, and we are so happy with the products that we are going to bring into our stores over the next three to six months.”
She gave us a closer look at what’s in store for shoppers.
Curves emerge in a big way
Curves and organic shapes are coming fast. After initially seeing some trend-setting vendors debut pieces last fall, now “everyone is on board in a big way,” Strain said. “We see it now in every category we offer.”

From upholstery to tables, bookcases, buffets, home office furniture and accessories, curved collections were introduced by every vendor Montgomery visited.

“The curves really are organic shapes instead of just rounded corners,” Strain explained. “It could be an amoeba-shaped mirror or scalloped edges on a furniture or organic pieces of wood. Basically anything that has soft edges.”

The design trend even extends to rugs, with curved edges instead of squared-off corners.
“It is very apparent this is not a fleeting trend, and I believe it will stand the test of time,” Strain said. “I’m excited that we’ll be bringing in more curved sofas and case goods in the very near future.”

It feels like an evolution of the raw, organic and nature design movement that emerged in recent years, she said.
“There’s something about curves that’s inviting and has a more welcome, comforting feel, and I think people are starting to embrace it.”

Colors and patterns abound
When it comes to color, warm, earthy tones are pushing colder grays, blues and stark white to the wayside.

“These last few years, we’ve been seeing color be reintroduced by many of our vendors, and more and more are catching the color bug,” Strain said.

“It started with warm earth tones, which are my favorite, but now we are seeing beautiful berry tones mixed in.”

This market brought “a world of rich colors and patterns,” she continued. “We saw deep navies, warm neutral blues, deep purples, neutral blush, browns, caramel, cinnamon, copper, earthy greens and warm deep mustards.”

Leathers are being steered toward more brown tones, a natural hide shade of tan and even black, Strain said.

“I’m excited about seeing more variation in the leather tones,” she said.
The “maximalist” movement also continues to deliver new looks — especially patterns.

“Everyone had an overload of patterns,” Strain said. “It was mostly florals, so it felt like a little throwback to the ’80s vibe, but some felt more ’60s and ’70s, and others felt more new and current.”

Plaids and stripes had their place, too, as vendors embraced more maximalist style.

“There are different levels to that style, and various colors schemes can set a different texture or tone,” Strain said. “It’s really up to each person what you want to showcase. For some, it’s collections, travel finds or art, and for others, it’s their life story. It also can be an explosion of color. So it’s up to us to help you tie it all together.”

Tech takes center stage
Get ready for technology that enhances how you live as immersive sound arrives in motion furniture.
“It’s a new feature, and it’s truly the future of motion furniture,” Strain said. “In essence, this is like having your own personal immersive sound experience from the comfort of your seat.”

Think speakers built into your headrest; complete sound control, including volume, base and treble; charging stations; cup holders; light features; heat and massage; and even coolers — all from the comfort of your sofa or recliner.
“We are super-excited to start introducing this amazing new concept into all of our Montgomery’s locations very soon,” Strain said.
It’s currently in the beginning stages, but I know that this is what we all have to look forward to in the world of motion furniture.”
The best part is — you can embrace all or even none of these trends, she said.
“We’re in an era of design where you can make any style you like work for you.”
