Nov. 6: Art exhibition
A group exhibition guest-curated by Anna Youngers is on display this month at Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing, 431 N. Phillips Ave. “Kith, Akin: Celebrating Connection through Painting & Textile” will feature Youngers, Ceca Cooper, Liz Heeren, Nancy Jane Huehl, Amy Jarding, Sue Kaihoi, Mary Selvig and Angela Zonunpari. An artist reception will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Nov. 7-9: Artists of the Plains
The Center for Western Studies at Augustana University will host the 44th annual Artists of the Plains Show & Sale at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls. Twenty-four regional artists will have their work on display and for sale in a variety of media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, 2D/3D mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, pottery and photography. The show is free. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday with a reception and awards program at 8 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Nov. 8: Pet portraits
The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society will host Pawliday Pet Portraits at Schulte Subaru in the service bay at 7601 S. Minnesota Ave. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For $50, you’ll get a 10-minute photo session and three to five professionally edited photos featuring your family, pets included. There will be four festive backdrops to choose from. Make your appointment by noon Friday, but walk-ins are welcome Saturday.

Nov. 8: Pumpkin roll
The Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation Department will host the third annual Great Pumpkin Roll on Saturday afternoon at the top of the hill at Tuthill Park. Prizes will be awarded to the top three pumpkins that roll the farthest and the shortest. The farthest contests will begin at 2 p.m., with the shortest at 3 p.m. Afterward, there will be pumpkin-flavored snacks and apple cider, pumpkin-related games, pumpkin-themed crafts and story time with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”

Nov. 11-16: Curling trials
The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s and Women’s Curling and the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials for Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling will be Tuesday through Nov. 16 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. Times are noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday through Nov. 14, 1 and 6 p.m. Nov. 15 and 1:30 and 6 p.m. Nov. 16. All-session passes are on sale now, with single event tickets to come. Coming up: Sentimental Journey
For a night of music, romance and a tribute to veterans, reserve a seat at The Speakeasy in the lower level of Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar, 208 S. Main Ave., on Nov. 14. Whitney Werner will sing classics like “Stormy Weather,” “All of Me” and “Unforgettable,” with Dan Graber on keyboard. Advance reserved seating costs $10, and it will be $15 at the door. Reserve tickets for “Sentimental Journey: A Tribute to Our Nation’s Veterans” here. There will be a complimentary champagne toast for veterans and vintage fur wearers from 5 to 7 p.m. in the main-floor bar.
