The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.

Oct. 23: Halloween at Lake Lorraine

Love Marlow and Lake Lorraine are hosting a safe way for your kids to trick-or-treat a little bit early. Halloween at Lake Lorraine will consist of a loop around the lake with stands along the trail for kids to get some treats. There also will be a chance to meet characters like Spiderman and photo opportunities throughout. Trick-or-treating will begin at 1 p.m. on the north side of the lake walk and end at 3 p.m.

Oct. 23: Zombie Crawl

This one’s for the adults. Want to participate in a pub crawl/scavenger hunt? The Sioux Empire Roller Derby is hosting a fundraiser for its practice venue in the form of the aptly named Zombie Crawl. The pub crawl will begin at the Top Hat, where the participants will receive scavenger hunt instructions that will dictate their night. The fun will end at Club David with a raffle. Entry is $10, and the event begins at 4 p.m.

Oct. 23: S’mores Fun Run

Get outside before it gets too chilly! Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a Fun Run at Tuthill Park. The best part? At the end of the run, you’ll get to enjoy some freshly made s’mores right off the bonfire. The run will begin at 1o a.m., and throughout the trail you’ll pick up all the ingredients to make a perfect s’more. Registration costs $5, and you can sign up at register.siouxfallsparks.org.

Oct. 24: Jaycees Feargrounds Kids Day

Everyone loves a good scare once in awhile, but Jaycees Feargrounds is taking a break from the frights for a Kids Day. On Sunday, kids will get the chance to explore the haunted space in a non-scary environment. Kids Day will consist of trick-or-treating through the maze and characters handing out candy from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is for those 12 and younger, and tickets are $8. One adult will get in free per child.

Oct. 24: Downtown Trick-or-Treat

Now this is a valuable trick-or-treating venture: Downtown Sioux Falls has partnered with more than 20 downtown businesses to create a map of trick-or-treat venues. From 1 to 3 p.m., vendors such as Five Guys, Great Outdoor Store, CH Patisserie and more will be passing out items to trick-or-treaters of all ages. The best part? It’s completely free. A map of all the vendors can be downloaded at DTSF.com.

Oct. 25: Plant-Based Junk Food at WoodGrain Brewery

Even if you’re not vegan, this event could be exciting: For one day only, Los Angeles-based Vuture (Vegan Future) Food will be headed to WoodGrain Brewery to serve up some “plant-based junk food.” What exactly does that entail? Vegan chicken burgers and loaded fries, among other things. Serving what they call “the best vegan comfort food around,” Vuture Food will be at the brewery from 4 to 10 p.m.
