May 9: Artist’s reception

Come to Ipso Gallery at Fresh Produce from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday for an artist’s reception for Judith Schornmann. The artist will offer reflections at 7 p.m. Who are they? According to the gallery, “In the same breath, Judith could be described as a tantalizing enigma and a pluralistic visage.” The gallery is at 400 N. Main Ave.

May 10: Plant sales

Can’t wait to dig in the dirt? Here are some plant events you might want to visit Saturday:

  • Cherry Rock Farms, 48105 264th St., just south of Brandon, will have its annual plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Known for their vegetables, the owners promise the biggest sale yet of their organic plants.
  • The annual plant sale by the Minnehaha Master Gardeners opens at 9 a.m. at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds and ends when the plants are gone. Offered are annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, pollinators, shrubs and vines. Admission is free; payment is by cash or check. Funds raised will go toward horticulture education.
  • Legacy Garden Services will offer free plants for gardens or patio pots from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or while supplies last. The event takes place at 49th Street Liquor, 3601 S. Minnesota Ave.

May 10: Sip & Shop

Seasoned Style, 824 W. 10th St., will host a Mother’s Day Sip & Shop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Snacks, sips and specials will be offered on hand-picked gifts and vintage finds. Sunday Spark will be there with permanent jewelry.

May 10: Honoring firefighters

The Empire Mall will host a free family-friendly firefighter appreciation event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the east JCPenney parking lot. The goal is to celebrate and thank local firefighters for their services while providing fun. Participants can enjoy firetruck tours, crafts for kids, games and refreshments and meet local fire and rescue workers.

May 10: Mother’s Day Market

All moms — those with kids and those with pets — are welcome at the third annual Mother’s Day Market at Severance Brewing Co., 701 N. Phillips Ave. Featured are Jaya K Permanent Jewelry, 605 Petals & Pines, Rae Jo Jewelry, Golden Sourdough and Kelcey Schroder Photography. You can try a beermosa and sign up for giveaways. It begins at noon Saturday.

May 10: East Bank exploration

The East Bank Walking Tour is a food-lover’s paradise, offering diverse flavors and local favorites from the city’s East Bank district. You’ll start at Remedy Brewing Co. on East Eighth Street, then stop at Queen City Bakery, Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet, Daylily Coffee, Fatu’s African Kitchen, Guatelinda Bakery, Windy City Bites, Antigua Taco House, Plum’s Cooking Co. and Monks Ale House. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available here.

May 10: Sheep shearing

Glean for Good Farm, 25638 487th Ave., a few miles southeast of Garretson, will offer a unique family experience from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. You’ll be able to watch the process of sheep shearing while being close to other friendly farm animals. And you can meet the farm’s four lambs.
