Celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with REACH Literacy
It might be Harry Potter’s birthday — but this party is enough to make any Potter fan feel like celebrating.
REACH Literacy is hosting its fourth annual Harry Potter birthday event July 28, and it’s shaping up to be the most magical yet — featuring visits from “professors,” indoor Quidditch and even a Harry Potter-themed escape room.

Last year, REACH had to make adjustments because the pandemic, which included a “birthday in a box” and no in-person party, but it’s excited to bring back the magic in person this year, executive director Paige Carda said.
“It was fun last year, but not as fun (as when we’re in person),” Carda said. “We’re excited to be back.”

The party will take place in the enclosed portion of the Western Mall, and guests can enter on the north side through the former Fairway Independent Mortgage entrance, or “Diagon Alley.” Included will be a chance to take a “portkey ride” on the Ferris wheel at Scheels or participate in the Triwizard Tournament at 605 Ninja Academy.

This year, those wanting a more exclusive experience were able to buy VIP tickets, which included early entry to the party and a personalized letter from Hogwarts as well as an extra “Herbology” class. The early entry was included because of the amount of traffic they’re anticipating, Carda said, adding 250 tickets have been sold already. Early entry ticket sales end today.
“This year, we did it a little bit differently just to try to watch traffic control,” she said. “It got so crowded that we’re hoping (VIP guests) could get through the majority, and then general admission also gets that as well.”

General admission tickets will be sold up until the day of the event and also will be available at the door. Parents or anyone who wants to watch the event can purchase a spectator ticket for $5.
The Harry Potter birthday party will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. for general admission ticket holders and 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for VIP guests. Click here to learn more.
