May 9: Summer concert season at Good Earth State Park

Summer concerts are back at Good Earth State Park. This Sunday opens with Whitetail Drum Group, with Watecha Bowl for the food truck. Concerts are free to attend with a park entrance license. Some permanent seating is available but visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Please be sure to be respectful and practice social distancing. Sunblock and bug spray also are encouraged.

May 7: 605 Made Spring Market

Shop local handmade goods at the 605 Made Spring Market. The annual spring market is in a new location this year, inside Shriver Square at 230 S. Phillips Ave. Hours are noon to 8 p.m., and admission is free. It’s also a stop on the Art & Wine Walk. Get a preview of some of the vendors here. 

May 7: May Art & Wine Walk

From 5 to 8 p.m., sip wine, take a downtown stroll and enjoy work from local artists at 30 downtown locations. Visiting locations and viewing the art is free. May 7: First Friday Mountain Bike Ride

Whether you’re a veteran trail shredder or a newcomer to the mountain bike world, join Sioux Falls Bicycling Co. for a fun evening of riding! The event is free. Riders leave from the shop at 26th and Cliff at 6 p.m. and get back about 7:30 p.m. Usual spots include Tuthill or Leaders parks. Stop by early to grab a New Belgium beverage from the trusty Marshall Fridge. Helmets are required, and lights are encouraged.

May 8: Minnehaha Master Gardeners Plant Sale

Shop a wide variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, pollinators, shrubs and vines from 9 a.m. to noon at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Registration is required for COVID-19 tracking purposes. Download the registration form here, fill it out, and bring it to the plant sale. Admission is free. Masks are encouraged.

May 8: Skating Through Time Spring Show

The Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club marks 25 years with a show called Skating Through Time at the Scheels IcePlex that will feature skaters of all ages and abilities. Performances are at 1 to 6:30 p.m. Click here for information and tickets. 

May 8: The Great Cardboard Race

Cardboard boats can really float! This race at the Midco Aquatic Center will have five age divisions. All boats, which can be made only from cardboard and duct tape, will be judged on creativity, seaworthiness and quickness to sink. Each boat will need up to two participants to commandeer the course. Registration is required, but the event is free. Check-in is at 1 p.m,. and the race starts at 2 p.m. Get all the rules and register at MidcoAquaticCenter.org. 

May 9: Mother’s Day Season Opener at Huset’s Speedway

Racing returns for the season at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon with three classes: 410 Outlaw Sprint Cars, Late Model Street Stocks and IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. and racing to follow.
