The week ahead: May 23-29
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
May 25: Creating a micro-prairie
Whether you’re a homeowner, gardener or passionate about urban ecology, a free workshop led by Boyd McPeek will teach you how to transition a tiny area or an entire lawn into a vibrant micro-prairie in the heart of the city. Gather by the micro-prairie at 10:45 a.m. Saturday on the south side of BronzeAge Art Casting’s foundry, 1110 N. Weber Ave. The workshop is part of the outdoor Falls Art Market 2024.

May 25: Poker on bicycles
Experience the thrill of a poker run on two wheels — with pedals. Join Sioux Falls Parks & Rec for an event that combines the excitement of a bicycle ride with the strategy of a poker game. Bicyclists will stop at five park locations and collect a playing card to create a five-card hand. The player with the best hand will win a new bicycle. Check-in for event will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Spencer Park. Registration is required.

May 25-26: Pizza nights
The Good Earth Farm, 28318 466th Ave., Lennox, will host its first pizza nights of the summer this weekend. The farm will open at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, so make your reservations now. Things to bring include a chair, bug spray, well-behaved dogs, children and friends — they should be well behaved too.

May 25: Punk rock prom
Full Circle Book Co-op is hosting “the only prom that matters” beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday at 123 W. 10th St. There will be a photo booth, drink specials, a graffiti wall and punk rock DJs playing tunes, with music from Syd and Jax, Circler and Plastic Blow. Formal prom attire is encouraged, but dig out your favorite Rancid shirt and Doc Martens and you could be crowned “Renegade and Rebel” of the night.

May 27: Hot dogs and skating
Skate City, 2901 W. Third St., is offering a Hot Dog Skate from noon to 6 p.m. Monday. Admission is $10 for the six-hour session. You must pay admission to receive a free hot dog and drink. Skate rental costs $3.

May 29: The Murph
You don’t have to be a member of Sioux Falls Fit Body Boot Camp to take part in The Murph Challenge. The workout challenges competitors to run 1 mile, do 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 body-weight squats, then run another mile. It is a tribute to the late Lt. Michael Murphy, who died in combat. Participants can complete the full Murph or choose from two scaled options. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 29 with the event at 9 a.m. at 3324 S. Duluth Ave.
