June 6-9: Pride activities

Pride Week activities will continue all through this week. On Thursday at 7 p.m. the Rainbow Chorus will present “Brave: A Journey from Darkness into Light” at the First Congregational Church. At 6 p.m. Pride Weekend Drag Bingo begins at Club David, with VDC presents: Sioux Falls Pride Kickoff, Gay A.F. Love, Lore, & the War to Exist at 8 p.m., also at Club David. Saturday activities will include the Sioux Falls Pride Parade at 10 a.m. at 8th & Railroad, the Sioux Falls Pride Festival at noon at Sioux Falls Stadium and the Official Sioux Falls Pride Afterparty at 8 p.m. at Club David and Dada Gastropub. The Pride Drag Brunch will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at CRAVE Sioux Falls.

June 7: Courthouse concerts

The Summer Concert Series at the Old Courthouse Museum will begin at noon Friday with a performance by Mogen’s Heroes. Concerts are free, and  you’re welcome to bring a lunch. The series will include Dakota District Pipes & Drums, June 14; Curious Music Collective, June 21; The Teels, June 28; Chad Elliot, July 5; Eliza Blue, July 12; Benny Bassett, July 18; Johnson/McKinney Quartet, July 26; Tony Rook Band, Aug. 2; Jazzed, Aug. 9; Janice Gilbert, Aug. 16; Patchouli, Aug. 23, and Link West, Aug. 30.

June 7: Artist reception

Artist Becky Grismer combines old and new photographs to create imagined landscapes where people and saintly beings with imagined identities exist. In the art show Imagined, Grismer merges human and tree forms to bring into existence sculptures that represent the human experience and parallel the natural world. An opening reception will be 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing.

June 7: Block party

The Downtown Sioux Falls Block Parties will return this Friday (it’s a First Friday!), beginning at 5 p.m. at 8th & Railroad. Undercover is the headliner for this month’s event. Find food truck fare, yard games, retail, food and interactive vendors. Click here for details on who will be there.

June 8: Festival of Cultures

Celebrate the various cultural communities in South Dakota at the 27th Annual Festival of Cultures on Saturday. LSS Multi-Cultural Center has partnered with Levitt at the Falls again to provide a centralized space to enjoy free live music, learn about languages, customs, and backgrounds, and connect as a community. Activities will kick off with a children’s Celtic music and dance performer, Maggie in the Meantime, at 10:30 a.m. on the Levitt lawn, followed by six live performances featuring music and dance from East Africa, South Asia, and local Native American groups. The event will close with Salsa Dancing Lessons with Ballroom Dance Academy, a performance by local Reggae band Tuff Roots, a Parade of Flags, and Grammy-winning conjunto band Los Texmaniacs on the Levitt lawn—all beginning at 6:30 p.m. For a map and schedule of events, visit Festival.LssSD.org.

June 9: Municipal band season

It’s the season for the free Sioux Falls Municipal Band concerts, and “The Seasons” is the theme for this Sunday’s concert. It will begin at 8 p.m. at Terrace Park. More than a dozen concerts will follow. You can find a complete schedule of upcoming concerts here.
