June 21-22: Summer sale

It’s time for the EmBe Summer Sale, a chance to refresh your wardrobe with gently used clothing, shoes, bags and other items, all while supporting EmBe women’s programs. It takes place in EmBe’s downtown gym and will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with a bag sale from 1 to 3 p.m. the final day. That’s when shoppers can fill a bag for $35.

June 22: Flutterfest

Come to the Great Plains Zoo, 805 S. Kiwanis Ave., for Flutterfest, an educational event focused on pollinators, especially butterflies. You’ll learn about the conservation program for the Dakota skipper butterfly and enjoy crafts and games. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, is included with admission.

June 22: Yoga at the arboretum

Practice yoga in an outdoor setting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum. You’ll begin your day with a grounding yoga practice surrounded by nature’s beauty. The class is designed for all levels. It is donation-based, and all proceeds go to support the arboretum. Can’t make it Saturday? There will be another session at 9 a.m. July 20.

June 22: Backyard Bash

Note: This event has been rescheduled for Aug. 3.

Looking for a way to mark the summer solstice with family and friends? Check out Bluestone Federal Credit Union’s Backyard Bash at the Birdcage from 2 to 9 p.m Saturday at the Sioux Falls Canaries stadium. Corn Palace Cornhole will run a cornhole tournament, with kids’ activities offered by The Foster Network, The Kitten League, Big Paws Canine Foundation Inc., Mighty Corson Art Players and CU Mortgage Direct. Food trucks will include Backyard BBQ, Breaking Burrito, Dakota Snow/Polar Bites and Ollies. The event is free. You’ll find a complete schedule here.

June 23: Summer solstice celebration

It’s more than a celebration — it’s another fest! The Summer Solstice Fest, in fact, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Landscape Garden Centers, 47238 271st St., and is hosted by Landscape, Solare Wellness Spa and others. You can get your ticket here. It’s a day of rejuvenating activities including yoga, sound bowl meditation and a dish garden workshop. Cost is $20 per workshop or $50 for an all-access pass.

June 23: Sunday at the Winery

Wilde Prairie Winery, 48052 259th St., north of Brandon, will host Sunday at the Winery with live music by Billy Lurken. Wine, cider, wine slushies, South Dakota craft beer and nonalcoholic beverages will be available. Bring a lounge chair or a blanket. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m.

June 25: Dog days

Your dog has some warm days ahead, so use this chance for a cooling treat at Stensland Family Farms, 2101 W. 41st St., during its Dog Days of Summer event from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Bring in your dog for a free “Pup Cup” with any purchase, fresh dog treats, an outdoor doggie pool and more.

Coming up: June 27

The fourth annual Acton Children’s Business Fair 2024 will display young entrepreneurial talent from 4 to 6:30 p.m. June 27 at 2512 S. Lorraine Place. Hosted by Acton Academy Sioux Falls and held during the Lake Lorraine Farmers Market, it allows children age 6 to 17 to explore the world of entrepreneurship, showcasing their creativity, innovation and business acumen. About 50 startup businesses run by talented kidpreneurs will be hosted. Cash prizes of $50 will be awarded in three age groups – 6-9, 10-13 and 14-17 – for highest business potential, most original business idea and best presentation.
