June 16: Fifth annual Celebrity Chef Sandwich Battle

Watch local chefs fight for the title of Sandwich King on Thursday the fifth annual Celebrity Chef Sandwich Battle. Hosted by Lunch is Served Inc. at Remedy Brewing Co., the event will include a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, as well as access to all six sandwiches served and a glass of Remedy’s special brew for the event. Celebrity chefs competing are The Big Orange Food Truck, Crawford’s Bar & Grill, Ode to Food and Drinks, Fat Kid Filly’s, Windy City Bites and Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Catering. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and go until 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by contacting [email protected].

June 17: Headlights Theater

Join Headlights Theater for its Season 3 premiere Friday. Headlights Theater, which describes itself as a way “to transform bleak parking lots into magical landscapes and provide a live performance experience,” began during the pandemic in 2020 and returns for its popular performing arts shows held by the lights of car headlights. The show will feature rock band Lost Harbor at 9 p.m., and the location will be announced on the Headlights Theater Instagram page (@headlights_theater) at 8 p.m. on the day of the performance. Entry is donation-based and accepted via cash or Venmo.

June 18: Dash for Donuts With Dad

Get in an early Father’s Day celebration with Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation that will be equal parts exercise and sweet treats. You’ll start with a run around Morningside Park with Dad, with either a half-mile or full mile option, and enjoy a doughnut after crossing the finish line. The run will start at 10 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. Saturday and is open to all ages. The event is free, but registration is required. You can register here.

June 18: Punk Poetry presents Pride Poetry

Celebrate local poets with Punk Poetry and Sioux Falls Pride for Pride Poetry Night on Saturday. Robert Burandt and others will be reading their original poetry, and signup on the night also will be available for those who would like to read. Soda, snacks, beer and wine will be available to purchase. The event will take place at Full Circle Book Co-op, 123 W. 10th St., and will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m.

June 19: Fourth of July Crafting

Make decorations for your Independence Day celebration with Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation on Sunday. You’ll use canning jars, wine bottles and other craft items to create some Fourth of July-themed decorations that can be used as gifts or for yourself. The class will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at Frank Olson Park. Registration for the class includes all materials and costs $8. You can register here.

June 21: Summer Solstice Day of Yoga

Did you know that Tuesday — the summer solstice — is designated as the international day of yoga? You can celebrate by joining South Dakota’s second celebration of the longest day of the summer at Great Bear Recreation Park. The day is celebrated by completing 108 sun salutations. You’ll be completing several variations of the poses, and all are welcome to join in or leave at any time. Yoga will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end at dusk. Registration is required for this free event and can be completed here.
