July 27: Air Show prelude

Aerostar will host Discover Aviation Day, a prelude to this weekend’s Sioux Falls Air Show, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Maverick Air Center, 4201 Maverick Place. Activities and opportunities to learn more and have fun will be available for kids of all ages.

Then, on the weekend, come out and see the USAF Thunderbirds and other amazing aviation performers during the Sioux Falls Air Show beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and running through Sunday. There will be lots of aircraft on the ground and fun activities for all ages. For information on this free event, visit siouxfallsairshow.com.

July 28-31: Broadway and Beyond

Here’s a great reason to check out the newly restored McKennan Park band shell. Broadway and Beyond brings its free annual musical tribute to Broadway classics with an all-ages cast of singers and dancers. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 2 p.m. Monday.

July 30: Grand finale concert

Update: The concert has been moved to the Mary W. Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. performance. It also will include pieces from Thursday’s performance, which was canceled because of the heat.

You’ve been saying all summer you’re going to attend a Sioux Falls Municipal Band concert. Well, Sunday at 8 p.m. at Terrace Park is your last chance this season, the band’s 104th.

The Grand Finale Concert will include classics from the golden age of Broadway, traditional marches and contemporary favorites. There is no cost to attend.

Aug. 2-6: Kunama Festival

A cultural festival to raise awareness about the Kunama people through sports, music, traditional dances and a cultural fashion show will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday and conclude at 11 p.m. Aug. 6. A soccer tournament will be at Yankton Trail Park from Aug. 2-4, with a fashion show Aug. 5 at the Multi-Cultural Center and live music at Levitt at the Falls. An award ceremony will be Aug. 6 at the center. The Kunama are a Nilotic ethnic group native to Eritrea.

Coming up: Aug. 5

Falls Area Bicyclists will host Sioux Falls Pizza Pursuit Part Dough at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at Pizza Cheeks. To “rise” to the occasion, you’ll ride your bicycle for 10 or 20 miles, stopping for a slice of Sioux Falls’ finest pizza every 3 to 5 miles. Check-in starts at Pizza Cheeks behind The Hello Hi at 120 S. Phillips Ave. The route must be started by 2 p.m. and completed by 5 p.m. You can ride the route on your own, or experienced riders will lead groups. Registration is $10 per person. The 10-mile route includes pizza from Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza, Sunny’s Pizzeria, Tomacelli’s Pizza and Pizza Cheeks. Charlie’s Pizza is included on the 20-mile route. You can register here.
