July 15: Little Midwest Latte Art Throwdown

Do you appreciate the barista artwork that appears on top of your latte? The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is hosting a latte art throwdown, with pours starting at 6 p.m. The competition will be a bracket-style tournament with a final head-to-head pour. July 16: Free Family Friday

Swim for free at Terrace Park Aquatic Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will be Wibits, yard games and more.

July 16-18: Summer Arts Celebration

Augustana University’s Center for Western Studies is throwing a summer arts celebration at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown. The event will be run much like CWS’ signature art program, the Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale. Local and regional artists will have works of fine art in many different mediums for sale at the show. Click here for information.

July 17: Cops on doughnut shops

Law enforcement officers will be standing on the roof of two Flyboy Donuts shops between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. to support the 2,750 Special Olympics athletes statewide. Find them at East 10th Street and at 57th Street and Sycamore Avenue. There also will be super heroes and villains for photos from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here’s what your donation will earn you:

• $5-$24: One free original glazed doughnut or medium coffee.
• $25-$49: One free custom 20-ounce thermal in your choice of teal or purple and a coffee punch card for five free coffees.
• $50-$199: One free assorted dozen donuts after 11 a.m. and a Torch Run T-shirt.
• $200-$999: One dozen original glazed doughnuts free each month for 12 months and a Torch Run shirt.
• $1,000+: Doughnut Surprise Party with up to 25 dozen original glazed doughnuts after 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday delivered to your workplace!

July 17: Book sale

The owner of the former Books n Brewz Pizzeria is selling her collection of books from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 201 N. Weber Ave. Fill a bag with books for $5. Other memorabilia, decor and furniture will be for sale. Hungry Dog will be selling lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

July 17: Hy-Vee day at the zoo

Hy-Vee is celebrating its partnership with the Great Plains Zoo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a special treat for visitors. The grocery store chain will provide a grilled hot dog lunch with chips, water, cookies and watermelon. Hy-Vee employees will assist with the meal, which will be served near the picnic pavilion. The lunch is free but is on a first-come, first-served basis.

July 17: Harry Potter cookie class

Come dressed in your wizard best for this one-time cookie decorating class with a Harry Potter theme. It’s offered by Twisted Sister Sweetz and begins at 2 p.m. at Howe Inc., 712 E. Third St. You’ll learn step by step how to decorate eight cookies. It’s open to all ages. Click here for information.

July 18: Pup-a-thon 5K

Bring your canine counterpart to Spencer Park for a dog-driven 5K from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. In honor of Hydration Awareness Month, your pup will receive a water bottle at registration. Click here for information.

July 18: Princess party in the park

Bring your princesses to the upper Tuthill Park garden for a royal party in a fairytale land. All princesses will enjoy dining on snacks, creating crafts fit for a royal and participating in other regal activities. You’re asked to wear your best royal attire and prepare for a magical time. The event runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and is a partnership between the city Parks and Recreation Department and the Siouxland Renaissance Association. Registration is required here.
