June 27: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
“Mr. Bojangles” will make an appearance in Sioux Falls when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band performs at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance, 1600 W. Russell St. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. You can purchase tickets here.

June 28: Comedy showcase
Get ready to laugh at the Summer Bzzz Comedy Showcase from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Lucky’s, 224 S. Phillips Ave. Robert Baril will headline the event. Alisha Rayne will open the show and Sioux Falls icon Jeni Mc will host. George Rigden’s music will close the show. Tickets cost $20; you can purchase them here.

June 29: Puppy yoga
Rescue Network will host a fun and relaxing yoga session with Ashley Hartshorn while adoptable puppies offer their encouragement. WoodGrain Brewing Co., 101 S. Phillips Ave., will host the event in its taproom. Bring your own mat. You can get your tickets here.

June 29: Fireworks demo
Boom! A fireworks demo show will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, hosted by Fire Bros Fireworks and Shelly Gaddis, at the corner of highways 11 and 42 south of Brandon. Bring a lawn chair and watch the sky explode. The event is free, and yard games and treats will be available before it begins. Parking spots are first come, first served.

June 30: Painting party
Augustana University will host its first ACE’s Painting Party from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Midco Arena on campus. The event is free and open to all ages. All supplies will be provided. Closed-toes shoes are recommended. The paint is not washable, so don’t wear your best clothing. Hot dogs, soda, water and alcoholic beverages will be available. Upcoming: Fourth of July
Here are some Independence Day activities all on July 4, you should put on your schedule:
- The Lennox Lions Club will host the Firecracker Fun Run beginning at 8 a.m., with registration at 7 a.m. at Lennox High School. Cost is $25 for the 10K, $10 for the 5K and $15 for the mile. Participants will receive a T-shirt at registration, and water and snacks will be available at the finish line. Stay in town all day for the parade and other fun.
- Ken’s Korner, 918 W. Sixth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is hosting a potluck picnic from 1 to p.m. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be grilled; you bring a side dish.
- JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cocktail Bar will host its usual pre-concert happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Levitt at the Falls. All drinks are $2 off until the live music by Kory and the Fireflies starts.
- Harrisburg parks will celebrate the Fourth of July from 5 to 9 p.m. at Central Park. American Legion Post 45 will sell burgers, hot dogs, chips, pop and ice cream. Music and inflatables will be available. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Fireworks will begin about 9:30 p.m.
- Taija Vu and Jeffry Umberger will host a Crave Patio Fourth of July Party from 4 to 8 p.m. at 201 E. Eighth St. There will be featured specials on food and drinks while listening to cool cover songs.
- In Sioux Falls, the fun run/walk check-in for registered participants will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. with a new route northbound along Phillips Avenue to Sixth Street. Lunch for the first 3,000 attendees will begin at 11 a.m. at the Levitt Shell at Sixth and Phillips with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band performing. Serving lines will be in the parking lot on the south side of the Levitt Shell. Mogen’s Heroes will perform at noon. For maps of the run/walk and the parade, click here. Over at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds, the gates will open at 7 p.m., featuring food trucks, music and fun with a kids area and Mr. Twister twisting balloons. Phil Baker will play kids’ music at 7:30 p.m. An ethanol-powered Vanguard flyover will occur at 8:30 p.m. with the American Legion flag retirement ceremony at 9 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.
