July 10: Hydrant party

Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation, along with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Sioux Falls Police, Siouxland Libraries and Sioux Falls Public Health, is coming to different neighborhoods this summer to beat the heat and bring the fun with hydrant parties. A visit to Morningside Park will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday. Keep cool and have a blast by enjoying water sprays, music, games and a book to read. Registration is not required.

July 10: Open fishing

Game, Fish & Parks’ Outdoor Campus will host an open house-style public fishing event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Lorraine. The privately owned pond has given the Outdoor Campus express permission to fish at this time. All equipment is provided. The event is open to all ages with no registration required.

July 11: Lattes & Littles

Lattes & Littles mom social will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Yakkity Yak Coffee Shop, 7321 S. Grasslands Place. It will be a morning of messy play on the patio. Bring a swimsuit and towel because there will be bubbles, a sprinkler, foam machines and chalk. Yakkety Yak employs those with intellectual and developmental differences and is located inside All American Gymnastics Academy.

July 18: Summer at the Stockyards

Please note the change in date: The Stockyards Ag Experience will offer a fun-filled afternoon of old-fashioned carnival games, play and photo-ops on the north side of Falls Park at 201 E. Falls Park Drive. Several local agriculture organizations are helping put on the first-time event. Activities include an egg race, duck pond, coloring and plinko. South Dakota Soybean will sponsor mini-doughnuts, and Color Bee Face Painting will be there. Kids will get tickets for each booth, then turn those in for prizes. There also will be a raffle for “big kids,” including Beef Bucks from South Dakota Cattlemen’s, a year of free eggs from Dakota Layers and gift cards to local stores and restaurants. The carnival will run from 3 to 6 p.m. July 18, and it’s free.

July 12: Thrift market

The Cozy Energy Thrift Market is back for round three, bringing an afternoon of community, creativity and good vibes. It will include local vendors and small businesses offering items like vintage clothing, handmade jewelry, art, home decor, Native American crafts, homemade goods and candles, with a food truck and refreshments on site. It will run from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at 605 Antiques, 3201 S. Shirley Ave.
