Nov. 3: First Friday

Several specials and special events will be offered Friday during Downtown Sioux Falls’ First Friday activities. Veza boutique will serve free specialty cocktails from 2 to 5 p.m. with additional savings on sale items. Blarney Stone Pub will have two happy hours, 3 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close, with drink specials. Rough Cut Social will offer half-price domestic pitchers along with live ax-throwing lanes. The Washington Pavilion will have free admission from 5 to 8 p.m. to the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center. Discounted tickets to educational films in the Wells Fargo CineDome also are available.

Nov. 3-5: Indian arts festival

A signature program of the Center for Western Studies at Augustana  University, the 42nd annual Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls is designed to educate people about the cultural importance and variety of regional art and artists. The largest and longest running show of its kind in the region, Artists of the Plains is an annual highlight of the Center’s Art Program and Educational Exhibits emphasis, one of several programming areas supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. More than two dozen artists will have their work on display. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a reception and awards program at 7:30 p.m., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The event is free.

Nov. 4: Coffee festival

First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard will present the 2023 Dakota Coffee Festival at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Attendees can sample coffee from more than a dozen vendors, gain insight into the roasting process and meet industry leaders from across the world. Proceeds from the event will support local nonprofits The Community Outreach and Sanford Foundation as well as an annual project directly tied to the sustainability of the coffee industry. OffGridBox provides clean water to remote areas all over the world, including countries that are among the top exporters of coffee through the fund set up by Mighty Peace Coffee. Tickets cost $20 via Ticketmaster.

Nov. 4: Holiday Boutique Crawl

The first Holiday Boutique Crawl will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, transforming downtown Sioux Falls into a winter wonderland with 10 participating venues offering a twist on the traditional shopping crawl. Participants include Chelsea’s Boutique, Lauriebelles, Layered Elements, Mint + Basil, MK Threads, Primp, Rose and Eugene Presents, Terra Shepherd, Threads by Simply Perfect and Veza. As participants travel from shop to shop, they will receive a “passport” to collect stamps, and a fully stamped passport gives them the chance to win one of 10 boutique-curated prizes. Nov. 5: Fan Fest

The Sioux Falls Skyforce will host Fan Fest from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sanford Sports Complex. Admission is free with a donation for Feeding South Dakota. The event includes player meet-and-greets, open gym and prize giveaways.

Coming up: Nov. 14

Brady Martz, the South Dakota Trust and Glacial Lakes Distillery will host a fundraiser for East River Legal Services, a nonprofit organization offering free civil legal aid in eastern South Dakota that was founded in 1970. A Night at the Movies, featuring a screening of “The Florida Project,” will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the State Theatre in downtown Sioux Falls. A short panel discussion will follow. Tickets cost $10 each and can be purchased online through Eventbrite or at the door. In 2022, East River Legal Services served over 1,100 clients and processed 2,232 applications for South Dakotans.
